Detailed Reviews
The rooms are comfortable and very spacious. Very good beds and we slept well every night. The breakfast buffet had plenty of delicious fresh food. The staff was especially helpful in providing information for some good walking tours. On-site parking was a plus.

Nice people, comfortable beds. Spacious rooms, good location, good restaurant attached.
Quiet place to sleep. Rooms are up one straight stair case. Free parking in back. Free Wi-Fi that worked well. Not a great view from the windows, but an easy walk to the canals.

The hotel is located on the roadside before the village of Giethoorn so it is easy to find the hotel. The car can be parked for free on site. The owner is very friendly and gracious so we enjoy talking to her. The room is nice, clean and has a good size. Also, wifi is free and no password is required.
With regard to the food, the dinner is so tasty and the price is worth every penny. The breakfast including the hotel fare is simple but also delicious. Overall we are really happy with this stay.

My wife and i stayed here for one night in mid April. We chose this place because of the free parking, free wi-fi, free breakfast, price was OK and location to walk around the canals of Giethoorn.
Our room was upstairs, no lift, it was clean and spacious and the host was friendly and helpful, thankful she spoke english the best she could. Comfy bed, quiet room and hair dryer in bathroom.
It is just a 5 minute walk to the start of the canals where you can hire a boat or have a meal, then allow yourself 1-2 hours to meander through the pathways and small bridges along the canals. Small supermarket is just 5 mins walk away also.
Breakfast was OK and we had a good stay here overall.

This place was an absolute value for money venue. Spotless clean rooms, good food for breakfast and dinner and the personnel is absolutely service minded and helpful. We felt spoiled. Thank you again.

We stayed there last month(May2015) which is a peak season in Netherland, the majority of the hotels in Giethoorn were fully booked, most of the website shows only Steenwijk and Meppel have rooms available until the last minute we seek a room in De Olde Smidse in a local website. The hotel is just right next to the bus stop, easy to access even holding lots of luggage. The main walking area, VVV and supermarket of Giethoorn takes you only 10mins to walk or 5 mins by bike which is really convenient. The room is nice and clean; My room is facing to the street and river, never to have that nice breath in the morning. Will recommend my friends to stay there while they plan to travel there. Last but not least, all the staff there are friendly and willing to help.

+1
Stayed here 1 night the end of April. It was still cool and rainy, but we didn't care. LOVED the family atmosphere and hospitality of the owner. The closer for me was the 2 fresh baked croissants he made especially for me because there had been only 1 left. Excellent breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms. Dinner was also good the night before for 2 weary travelers and 2 guests who met up with us there. Very safe. 5 minute walk to the boats. We would most definitely stay again should we visit the area again. Great value but it was the family hospitality that we loved most.

We called in here after visiting Geithoorn on bicycle's ,it's about 5 mins from the main tourist carpark by the Spar, the food was really good and the guy who runs it speaks excellent English the food and drink prices are a lot lower than in Geithoorn itself, and it also shuts a lot later than the restaurants in Geithoorn, they all want you out soon as the tourists have gone which is about 19.30.Spoke to people who were staying there and they were really happy with what they had got.

They have a garage at the back of the building. That is where we rented the bikes from. I'm sure you can lock them in there at night. Have fun!
