Big rooms, comfortable bed and good breakfast… all they were short of was the staff in the pub. Perhaps that was only for a couple of days while we were there but it took them ages to notice us in the pub and then come to serve us. That is the reason I have taken away 1 star off the 5. Rest all good, its a family run chain of hotels and the owners tend to make sure you get the best experience on your stay. They have a restaurant with outer part just by the canal which is open during summers.

We stayed at this hotel to visit nearby Leiden and the tulip (tulpen) fields. This hotel is perfect with free secure parking, clean spacious hotel with friendly staff throughout and a hotel restaurant that serves simply stunning food and wine. We have stayed in several Van de Valk hotels throughout the Netherlands and this one did not disappoint at all. I would highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay here again if we ever end up in this part of Holland. Thank you to all the staff front and back of house at Hotel Leiden.

The hotel is located adjacent to a canal and not far from Leiden University. The rooms are large and have balconies which would be great for the summer months when one can sit outside. The beds are comfortable. Rooms have a fridge but not sure if it is working. Bathrooms have bath and shower and are also spacious. Good power outlets and wifi. Comfortable chairs and side table. Desk for working with coffee maker and kettle. The restaurant in very good and serves a great breakfast as well as a good selection of dishes for lunch and dinner.

One night stay at the VDV Leiden and woke to find I had been bitten on hands, feet, legs, arms, back. Many bites which I identified as bed bug bites and complained to the VDV by email. Reply was rather unsympathetic, just that they would investigate. I am still suffering discomfort and itching a week later. From the number of bites there is quite an infestation and it is a problem that should have been dealt with some time ago. I suspect I am not the first to complain and it is a problem that VDV staff have ignored. Do not stay at the VDV Leiden.

We were attracted to this hotel due to the riverside location and free parking. The hotel itself consists of different styles and dates of building which are all interlinked and include a very historic part. Throughout the hotel there are large old photos of the original owning family. What a lovely touch and I was fascinated to see them. The public areas and guest rooms are of a high standard, We did not take dinner, but the buffet style breakfast was amazing for choice and of a very high standard. All dairy and cold meats were under a cold chill section to keep them nice and fresh. I love the green credentials of the hotel too. The only constructive feedback I would give is that while it's nice to have a separate bath, the shower was very small and cramped with no internal light making it very dark. I would have preferred no bath and a double walk-in shower. Maybe this could be considered in future.…

stayed for 4 nights in May. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was good. Lovely waterfront setting and the restaurant/brasserie were both busy which was a good sign. Food was good quality. You are a 45 minute walk from the town centre and train station but we did that happily a couple of times. Leiden is a nice town and there is always a bus or taxi. All great until time to pay the bill. A la carte menu was good and gave a cheaper deal for 3 courses from a reduced selection. The bill didn't reflect the cheaper deal (everything was priced individually). When challenged the bill was amended but when we checked out, the wrong bills were included even though the correct signed bills were alongside. Not just us. Woman next to us was having same problem. Put a dampener on it. Another dampener is that we still have pending payments against my card a week after we left and settled our bill in full. These should have been cleared when we settled our bill.…

The hotel is located on the Old Rihn river, with an outdoor terrace facing it. The rooms are large, the beds very comfortable, the terrace spacious and the bathroom is big and includes a bathtub and shower as well. The personnel is very friendly in all areas - hotel, bar, restaurant. We had a dinner in the restaurant and the service and meals were very good. The breakfast (included in the rate) is one of the best I ever had!!! We were asked daily if we would like to follow the Green practice of cleaning the room, which I consider beneficial if you don't need the room cleaned every day!

Stayed here for three nights. Choose the hotel for great location and waterfront setting. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Service was friendly and helpful especially with travel planning. Enjoyed dinner in the brasserie and breakfast with canal views.

The worst experience ever van den valk .normally we always choose this chain because they have good reputation but this hotel is the worst , very bad service : In the restaurant for diner the menu is different than the normal menu so less choice We have asked toast brood they said it was finished The worst is to come I’ve pushed wrong button in my email and now find out at 15h that our room was cleaned garbage full bed not made unbelievable!!!! When we spoken to the house keeping she refused to make it !!!! I’ve never experienced in this chain hotel they have to be shamed to have the name van der valk They don’t belong to their quality service Really shame on you We had paid nearly 400eur for 2 with arrangements Will never come and never recommend this hotel
