The hotel is very nicely located, within an easy walking distance of the terrific botanic gardens, the natural history museum, the street market (this one is right outside of the hotel), the fancy shopping street, the train station, and other Leiden landmarks. The lobby is better named a conference hall, with several joined spacious rooms (one of the rooms is...

We have now stayed here 3 times. It is our last stop before returning to the US - about a 20 min ride from Schiphol airport (early in the morning). We like staying here rather than in Hoofddorp which is closer, but lacks the charm of Leiden. If you are looking for a place that puts you right in the...

Missed a train got the last room on top floor, no elevator. Very quiet except squeaking floors, but that is part of the charm of this old hotel. Friendly reception and check out. Will certainly go back

If you enjoy the "old style" of hotel, this is the place for you. Simple, clean, efficient, bordering on quaint. Rooms have thick carpeting, tapestries on the wall (but modern heating & cooling), sold antique furniture and beds. Nothing new in this hotel, but everything is clean and tidy, the breakfast is great , the staff are lovely and helpful....

I found very great, that the hotel is very central. It's in the middle of the city, central station and all the city tour points. The hotel is very historical from inside, has friendly stuff and the rooms are small, but clean and very cute!

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel for a conference at the university. Good aspects of the hotel are that it is very central and well-located and the staff were friendly. Bad aspects are the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room (and given the weather in Leiden, often all you want is a warm cup of...

Was confused while there if I was a youth hostel or not. They have these "themed" rooms but they are seriously outdated and sore on the eye. I lived in a superior room and there wasnt even coffee making facilities. I mean, come on. Any HOTEL with respect for itself should have this. The windows are thinner than paper and...

We stayed here for six nights in May 2016. On the plus side, it's in a good central location and the breakfast is fine. On arrival, we were met with canalside redevelopment and as we had a canal view room, we asked about noise and were assured there was none. There was none over the weekend but unfortunately, at the...

Stayed at the end of a bike trip in Aoril. Chose it because we ended a previous trip here a few years ago. Our room was large overlooking the canal. The stairway is steep, but staff helped with luggage going up! Breakfast is very nice. They serve a small dinner menu in a nicely decorated room next to breakfast area....

The hotel is very centrally located and spread over 5 different buildings that are all attached and connected. No elevator that I found, and the rooms are slightly dated but clean and a nice view over the canal... Breakfast was basic but nice.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Restaurant Nieuw Minerva is located in the centre of Leiden between the two most important shopping streets. You will find plenty of restaurants and cafés around the hotel for a drink or bite during your stay. The hotel is situated along one of Leiden's many canals. This makes it easily accessible by boat. The hotel covers 6 authentic 16th century canal houses. In 1830, one of these houses was inhabited by J.R. Thorbecke, the father of the Dutch constitution. Nieuw Minerva is decorated in a friendly, Old Dutch style with a homely atmosphere. It offers a good restaurant and meeting and banquet facilities. The hotels rooms are decorated in various styles. Some rooms are romantic, some classic, some in Art Deco style, and a beautiful bridal suite is available as well. ... more   less
