This is a hotel in which every single room has a theme! There is a 'Rose Room,' a 'Blue Room,' a 'Garden Gnome Room', etc. It's charming! More than charming, it's a lovely place to stay, close to the train station and close to restaurants. The hotel staff is also very accommodating. They brought forward the time for breakfast on... We had a wonderful experience at the Nieuw Minerva. We stayed for two nights during a conference and enjoyed the themed rooms and the hospitality. The hotel even changed the time of breakfast on Sunday morning for our group to accomodate an early departure. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed in the Rose Room which was spacious and very pleasant. Free wifi in the room. It would be vastly improved by the addition of coffee making facilities. The dining area of this hotel is beautifully decorated in an old fashioned way. The hotel has steep stairs, no elevator. Conveniently situated near the Rjiksmuseum.

Very nice little hotel. Smoking rooms on the top floor with your typical Dutch steep stairs to get there. Excellent wifi everywhere in hotel and very nice and friendly staff. Lovely reception area with loads of history. Great breakfast. Large building project going on next door at the moment but didn't hear a peep of noise in the hotel. Recommended.... More

A lovely, quirky, bike-friendly hotel, in an excellent location. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The bathroom attached to our room was wonderful - twin basins, a good-sized bath and a separate shower. Our room overlooked the canal, which provided plenty of interest for us to look at. There were lots of eating places nearby. We took a boat... More

Stayed there during a dance festival back in August 2014. Booked for 4 nights and the room they gave me was a small room but very cozy. It has a single bed and near the window and sees the canal and the other houses. Breakfast was not bad as they provide the usual Dutch breakfast. Staff were very friendly and... More

I already stayed at several different (relatively low-cost) hotels in Leiden and must say that the City Hotel Nieuw Minerva was the best of the hotels where you pay <100EUR per night - even if you wouldn't expect something outstanding when you see it from the outside. The location is perfect, next to the canal and plenty of bars and... More

The location of this Hotel is perfect, right on a canal and only 5 minutes by bike away from the Station. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. It was great to be able to leave our bikes safely in the Hotel. The room we had looked out onto the canal. Super view but a little noisy at night,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Restaurant Nieuw Minerva is located in the centre of Leiden between the two most important shopping streets. You will find plenty of restaurants and cafés around the hotel for a drink or bite during your stay. The hotel is situated along one of Leiden's many canals. This makes it easily accessible by boat. The hotel covers 6 authentic 16th century canal houses. In 1830, one of these houses was inhabited by J.R. Thorbecke, the father of the Dutch constitution. Nieuw Minerva is decorated in a friendly, Old Dutch style with a homely atmosphere. It offers a good restaurant and meeting and banquet facilities. The hotels rooms are decorated in various styles. Some rooms are romantic, some classic, some in Art Deco style, and a beautiful bridal suite is available as well. ... more   less
