We decided to go out for the weekend 3-4 days before so, being August in Portugal, everything that had a decent price was already booked. We managed to find this place and it charmed us with its 40's-50's feel. It was the first Pousada or Inn in Portugal and because it is considered an historical building they have kept it...

Stayed here for 2 nights when travelling around Alentejo. With only 25 rooms this is a personal hotel and staff is really making this a friendly and welcoming place. Hotel was clean, breakfast fine and AC worked as it should (38 degrees outside). All was well at this nice hotel.

Stayed overnight, we were driving to the Algarve. Hotel is in a great position and easy to find. A short walk takes you into the town which is worth a visit. The staff here are really pleasant and extremely helpful. Rooms are fine but aircon was not that good. We had dinner which was fine. Just a few moans for...

This place is located just outside the old city walls of Elvas (5 minutes walk) so is ideal for sightseeing and restaurant hunting... It's an old Pousada (state-owned hotel) that is now back in private hands, originally designed in the 1940s... It has an art deco feel to it, with nice, well furnished rooms and tiled bathrooms. However, the staff...

Stunning hotel, with friendly service. Only visited for drinks, and to sit on the outside patio area in the sunshine was lovely. Must return and stay a few days, as the lounges, restaurant etc all looked wonderful. Our drinks were fairly inexpensive too for a hotel of this stature!

The Santa Luzia used to be a Pousada, as in part of the chain of luxury, formerly state-owned hotels in Portugal. It has no longer been so since 2011, which might seem a shame, having been the first such, and purpose built in 1942 in what at the time would have been a strategic overnight stop for visitors just arrived...

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago (was still a Pousada). Small hotel but with excellent professionals! Good walking distance for the old town. Do not forget to visit the fortress (very well recovered). This is a historical and very pleasant Alentejana city!

We stayed here during a recent European Aerobic Gymnastics Competition. From booking the rooms, having been let down by another hotel, through to the minute we left, we could not have been looked after any better. Staff: We unfortunately got a puncture in our hire car just outside the hotel on the night we arrived. The following day, the staff...

A nice historic hotel located in a historic town. The room was immaculate and very comfortable .They work very hard at maintaining the historic Pousada ambiance . The food in the restaurant was excellent . The service we received from the staff was outstanding. The desk clerk took an hour of her time when we checked out to help us...

The room was pleasant, but the bathroom was less than clean, and the shower water pressure very poor. For some reason, water pooled by the sink and ran onto the floor, leaving it always wet. However, the public areas, restaurant, and included breakfast were all top-notch. There is free parking on the grounds, and the gate into the walled town...

The SL Hotel Santa Luzia was opened this year, and is situated in the building of the former Pousada de Elvas, which dates back to 1942." After some redecoration and restoration work, it is now a charming hotel aiming to combine the typical Alentejo architecture and the traditional Portuguese spirit of hospitality and it's ready to face the challenges that come with being located in Elvas, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2012. Featuring an elegant, yet typical, decor, the 25 hotel rooms have cable TV, minibar, telephone with exterior access, en suite bathroom and free Wi-Fi access, offering pool, garden and city views. Guests can enjoy the best of Alentejo cuisine in the restaurant where contemporary versions of classic dishes such as Bacalhau Dourado (Gold Codfish) or Borrego Assado no Forno (Roast Lamb) are served. The Bar serves cocktails and appetizers, and like the restaurant, have terraces with relaxing views to the swimming pool. The Hotel has two game rooms, tennis court and free parking (without surveillance). The Spanish city of Badajoz is 12 km far and the bus station is only 7 minutes walking distance from the Hotel. ... more   less
