The Convento da Provença – Rural Hotel, located at Monte Paleiros, Portalegre, Alentejo in the Natural Park of S. Mamede Mountain and center of the Tourist Triangle of North Alentejo (Castelo de Vide, Portalegre, Marvão), is part of a rural environment where tranquillity and silence offer true moments of rest and relaxation. A real monument, the Convento da Provença (with origins in the remote Middle Ages) sits at the foot of the Serra de Frei Álvaro, a location that ensures magnificent views over the plains and the hills where cork oaks and olive trees domain, in a calm and welcoming atmosphere that combines history, nature and religion with all the comforts and amenities essential for an unforgettable stay. The legacy of centuries of history are reflected in the tasteful decoration based on past history and the monastic life, the preservation of old walls and in the maintenance of most of its original features, which highlight its seven rooms and two suites whose names are a homage to the castles of the District of Portalegre.

After a short tour of the property, and very old building adjacent to a medieval site, we were offered a room overlooking the ancient church's altar. Very confortable and quiet, surrounded by nature (an olive tree estimated more than 1'500 years old!), outdoor swimming pool available. Breakfast included, nice extensive buffet.

Very nice and tranquil location, a special atmosphere to feel comfortable. Super friendly staff - top service. During the cold time of the year the rooms may be a little cold, even so there is aircon in each room. Sadly the owner is not looking very much into maintenance and some necessary investments. This B&B has so much potential, but is not using it.

We stayed one night in late Feb. We were the only guests and the staff person treated us well. As an old building it is interesting to stay there. It was cold and damp during our stay. While the guest room was warm with the heater the common rooms were cold even with a fire.

We had a nice welcome in this convento. Anna did everything to let her guests feel home. When she told the store of the house her eyes were like stars. She is really proud on the house and the area. Every morning we had fresh juice and warm bread for breakfast.
