Enjoy your stay in Coimbra!
The innkeepers were so nice. I had a problem at first - - the bed was too short, no air conditioning and the wifi was weak. They changed my room which remedied the problems. Everything was comfortable, but nothing special. The price was higher than I have been used to.
You can't get any more authentic than this! Rosa and Palmyra, who own and operate the guest house with their niece, grew up in the village of Fornos, live down the street in their parents' home, and have renovated their grandparents' house into this charming inn. They know Coimbra well and are founts of information for tourists in the area. They also speak several languages and are interesting, creative people who are eager to share their experiences. The inn is comfortable, clean, and spacious. It serves a delicious breakfast each morning, when conversation among the guests from many countries is encouraged.
Nice, quiet refuge about ten minutes outside of Coimbra. The ladies who run the place have turned a substantial family home in a small village into a comfortable hotel. Rooms are large, breakfasts are good, and Rosa and her sister provided the three of us a warm and informative greeting. A nice alternative to The bustle of Coimbra.
Nice old house (just few minutes by car from Coimbra), sensitively reconstructed, without changing the character of architecture. The owners - two attentive and nice ladies are very helpful, speak many languages and produce excellent homemade marmalades and liqueurs. I definitely recommend to taste :) Rooms are cozy and "old style", comfortable. Breakfast is good and rich, the only deficiency is that it is served in the room where is just one table - it makes problem when there are several people at the same time.
We were two couples touring Portugal and decided to stay at Casa Morais based on the reviews. The reviews are spot on. The renovated guesthouse makes a very comfortable place to stay with generous sized rooms, nice sitting areas inside and out, and generous hosts. Rosa and her sister made sure we felt welcomed and gave us lots of information of the area. We walked 10 minutes across the road for a dinner of sucking pig that was great. The accommodations are very clean, and the breakfast was more than ample. The only negative was that the beds were quite short. This is a good value place to stay in this area.
"Ask for a second floor room. A family with three children stayed above us and they came in after we were in bed keeping us awake until they settle down."Read full review
