I spent 3 days and enjoyed very much the professionalism and kindness of the staff. The rooms are clean, the breakfast room is large and comfortable and there is a large room for discussions, etc. As many others, I fed up staying at modern hotels having no character and often small rooms. At the Astoria, I was pleased to stay...

So beautiful, you could live there forever. Amazingly charming, with fully functional facilities and the fittings of a bygone era - for e.g., a library in the hotel, with a piano.. Room was comfortable, had a real balcony with windows that open (wow), fabulous views of the river, and the bridges. Fabulous buffet breakfast The service was truly great. Ricardo...

This was once the best hotel in Coimbra, nowadays it is in need of renovations. Still, it keeps a lot of the old charm, having old-style furniture with inlays and the breakfast room with crafted wood paneling. Some rooms have views of the Mondego river.

We had read mild complaints from other travellers about the rundown conditions here but this hotel was perfect for anyone looking for a kind of unique "old fashioned" European hotel experience. Our room was quite large with a beautiful view of the river. The decor was beautiful: old dark wood and tiles. The bathroom is really big and clean. The...

I wanted to love this hotel. It is a wonderful building - old, grand, dignified - and only steps from the train station, so very convenient. Near lots of restaurants and sights. Right on the river, and we had a balcony overlooking it so the view was lovely. Those are all terrific things. However, our room had two single beds...

The best part of this hotel is it's location, which runs parallel to the river and offers quick walks to all the highlights of Coimbra. Part Art Deco, Part unkempt, this historical hotel would have otherwise been magnificent, had her threadbare carpets and bent rickety beds been attended to. Furthermore, and unfortunately, tired staff offer halfhearted attempts to recommend restaurants...

Pros: Great location, breakfast, and free parking across the street, inexpensive. Cons: no English TV (even tho ch 5 said BBC, no picture or sound), small, stiff beds. Mixed: I liked the style of the hotel, wife wanted something more modern. Charming elevator, bath ok. I'd stay here again, but she wouldn't.

This hotel is one of the most expensive hotels in Coimbra. The hotel is about 100 years old. From outside it looks like a beautiful historic building that for sure catches your eyes. But you're off to a big surprise once you step in... Old carpet, scratched up walls and doors, old wall paper and paint... petty much just about...

I love art deco and this place is in pretty good shape for a 1920's building. The lobby is like being in an Alfred Hitchcock movie and my friend and I loved to hang out there and have a drink from the honor bar. The location is close to the no car zone and there you can find gelato, coffee,...

Conveniently located near for the old town, walking distance from Coimbra A station. The hotel is " vintage" Coimbra and in need of a facelift, but that just adds to its charm. Lovely location near the river, with access to buses including hop on hop off. The room was clean although the bed was uncomfortable and kept me awake at...
