My two friends and I booked this hostel on short notice for one night before going to Lagos the next day. It was incredibly quick and easy to find the hostel (our cab driver pointed it out), and check in was easy. This was impressive as we had not organised to have a third booked in, and the girl on...

Stuff was so kind. During our stay one day was my birthday and stuff left a bunch of flowers to our room. The room was perfectly clean. Location was excellent. We could reach lost of places by walk. Around the hotel there were lots of restaurants. Especially one called Restaurante o Arco was amazing. The owner Is a great man.

A top notch, homely place to stay, the perfect combination of quality staff (the staff recommendation of visiting the Regaleira palace at Sintra was vital!), comfortable rooms & good value. The location was perfect, with all the major sights & relevant transportation in walking distance (e.g. Rossio square, Commerce square, Alfama [old district]). Clean shared kitched with a supermarket just...

My first contact with the Rossio Hostel was not premeditated, I was arriving at the airport in Lisbon did not know where he was going to stay or go. That's when I asked an airport employee where would be the best value for me to stay and staying, she pointed me rossio because the neighborhood was more central and with...

This hostel was amazing. Incredibly cheap for a twin room with shared bathroom. Very clean and comfortable, lovely view over the square. Very friendly and welcoming staff who stayed up for our late arrival and were incredibly helpful with information about Lisbon. Fantastic breakfast included in a great dining area.

I stayed at Rossio Hostel for 4 nights and it was fantastic. The breakfast was brilliant and much better than I was expecting. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful, giving great advice about where to go and how to get there. The arranged activities in the evening were great, this helped me to meet people whilst I was...

This hostel is placed right next to the Rossio train station (from where there's a direct train to Sintra for instance), right in the city center, between a lot of metro stops and around plenty of restaurants and bars, pubs etc. The staff is great, polite, helpful, they know a lot of nice things to do around there and they...

Location is really good if you don't mind the street noise much. Staffs are warm-hearted and helpful. Breakfast is ok (egg or pancake). Try to get rooms facing the square. Small private room for 2 persons on the other side is not recommended for people longing for fresh air and sunshine. If you fancy bio food, there is a super...

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Rossio and very happy with the service I received throughout my visit. The staff are very helpful and gave useful information regarding where to go for different types of evening activities. The fado house they recommended was also a great find. The beds were comfortable (stayed in a 4 bed dorm) and...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
