My stay at GN Hostel was the highlight of my recent European tour. The hostel is beautifully furnished and has a retro 70's feel, but somehow still feels modern. The beds were comfortable. The staff were warm, friendly, and genuine. The sangria kept us happy. What more could you ask for? I left wishing I could have stayed, and also...

This hostel is AWESOME!!! From the moment I arrived I felt super welcomed & at home. The hostel has a great vibe - cool artwork, great facilities & very clean. I was super impressed. Not only this but the free breakfast of pancakes, waffles, cake, cheeses, breads etc was the best I've had in a hostel & the free sangria...

The staff is great and helpful. The showers are pretty impressive: better than in a hotel. They have dinners every night for 10 euros including drinks. The beds are comfortable and some rooms has a balcony. Waffles and crepes in the breakfast great place.

Nice hostel in the middle of old Lisbon. It has a special 'crew'/staff that is always able to help. The breakfast is nice and the rooms very clean and cool. I hope to go back to Lisbon and back to this hostel... for sure!

A solo female traveller, I stayed 4 nights in a 3 bed dorm. I did not realise I was booking a mixed room, which proved to be a bit uncomfortable for me as I shared only with men the whole stay. That aside, the hostel itself was basic but clean and value for money with just about everything you need....

I stayed at the goodnight hostel for 4 nights with two friends. It's located in the center of the city. The rooms and the toilets were always clean. It has an amazing decoration and a very cozy environment!! The staff was really really kind, warm and friendly! Marta helped us plan our trip, Joanna made the most delicious breakfast, David,...

This hostel is inconsistently managed and is not friendly to Americans or seniors. The staff are rude and bossy and clearly are instructed to discourage older guests from having a good experience and from coming back. The place has the feel of a girls boarding school with overbearing staff obsessed with rules and recriminations. If you are a friendly American...

This place is so good in every way. It is located 4 mins walk from Baixa Metro, so easy to find. I was checked in by Vittor and he was ever so friendly and helpful, even carried my backpack up to my 6th floor room. Reception is on 2nd floor so there are a few stairs but good training for...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
