One of the most unique and most memorable places I've stayed. The staff is phenomenal. Amazing service just seemed to come natural and always with a smile from everyone we met during our stay. Their recommendations for everything we asked for were also top notch. The house itself was originally built as a family home by Lisbon residents (brothers I... More

If I had to find a fault with this hotel it would be the difficulty our driver (not booked via the hotel) had in reaching it. The main entrance is tucked away at the back, through a small alley and up a flight of stairs. However the hotel itself and especially the staff are excellent and they really cannot do... More

The Palacette Chafariz D'El Rei is one of the best hotels we have stayed in - good position in the Alfama area of Lisbon and still close to the centre ( 5 minutes walk ). Rooms are enormous with good views and a true definition of a boutique hotel BUT what makes this hotel special is the wonderful staff -... More

The palace itself and the staff who run it are all wonderful, and we very much enjoyed our stay. The only downside is the location between some alleys in the Alfama area of Lisbon, making it impossible to be reached by car or taxi, so getting your luggage in and out is a bit of a hassle and our taxi... This boutique hotel is one of the nicest establishments at which we have ever stayed. There are only six rooms and each one is distinctive. The hotel is one century old and gives a radiance and charm only available in such a unique setting. The rooms are large, the beds superb, and the furnishings are wonderfully comfortable. The common area... More

This hotel is a total delight & my friends & I would highly recommend a visit. The period features blend effortlessly with the modern creating a superb base for our stay in Lisbon. Breakfast is excellent with every taste catered for & any requests deemed no trouble at all. The staff deserve an extra special mention as they went out... More

As stated in this review title, you'll not be able to find any place like this in Alfama, where peace and luxury will be melted in an enchanting home, with helpful and extremely kind friends that will fulfill any of your need. The suites are beautiful, and the view over Tejo astonishing. The architecture of this ancient Palacete, a former... More

Superb staff, accommodation , breakfast, wifi, location We are much travelled and have yet to find a more welcoming, better run, comfortable hotel. This hotel is what 'boutique' should mean. Nothing is too much trouble - and they mean it! Fantastic blend of style and with a little quirkiness.

My husband and I stayed here for one week during our first visit to Lisbon. We were looking for an exceptional hotel in the Alfama district that was also a pleasant and pampering place to stay for seven days. We got all of that and more. Nothing at this hotel has been overlooked, from the furnishings (a fun combo of... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
