We stated at Pateo Santo apartments in November. The apartment was small, but had everything we needed. It was modern, clean and comfortable. The staff were super helpful and welcoming. Lovely little terrace. The price was very good. The only problem was it was a bit hard to find, with no real sineage. Very central with lots of good restaurants...

The location is excellent but there a few cautions to be aware of. It really is a case of reading the fine print and/or asking some pre-booking questions about what a 'fan' means and as a result how it affects air conditioning. 1. These apartments are not air conditioned. There is an electrical fan provided to each unfortunate soul who...

Dear Mr Oliver I am very sorry to hear that you have had such a disappointing stay with us and that we couldn't get anything right for you. First this is true it hot during august in Lisbon, I understand comparing Ireland it must be a big temperature diference. You are speaking about my small accommodation as the the castle...

I can't stress enough how well located the appartment was; nestled within the winding streets of alfama close to a super little bakery and plenty of restaurants. The host was quick to assist and offer advice and the appartment itself was cosy and clean. The main perk is the outdoor courtyard, full of character and sunshine; the photos just don't...

Couldn’t ask for a better location in Lisbon! In the heart of Alfama you’ll find the self-catering apartments that make up Páteo Santo Estevão. Mariza kindly arranged the taxi for us from the airport (great service from Rui Marques!) and gave a helpful overview of the area of how best to get about. But don’t forget, half the fun is...

When we arrived it was a bit hard to find, but we got a warm welcome and the appartment was nice and clean. We stayed in appartement 5. If you are taller than 1.75 cm you have a problem with the beds, but for us it was ok. Location is perfect for exploring the city!

Nice self-catering apartments in the Alfama area of Lisbon. Right in the old town and 15 minute walking to the central square, shops, and the water. These apartments have a lovely central patio to sit outside and have a glass of wine. Very safe as the main door locks and you then walk down stairs to the courtyard and separate...

This guest apartment is located in the heart of Alfama, close to restaurants, fado and sights. It is clean, and very affordable although the room is very small. We enjoyed the shared patio and were pleased by the map and restaurant recommendations of the host.

Really great spot to start your tours in Lissabon. Right on top of Alfama wit a perfect view to the sea just in fron of the main door. Kitchen area is big enough to prepare meals but you wont need it since there are tons of great and cheap restaurants in the small streets of Alfama. Bathroom is clean and...

A warm and friendly welcome awaited at Pateo Santo Estevao Apartments, we were greeted with a map, and given all the information we needed on arrival, and contact numbers should we need to contact any of the team. Details that made all the difference. The apartment itself had a great view of the city, and was clean and fresh. Located...

The location is excellent in the heart of Lisbon in Alfama. The place is really cosy and confortable. We were very well received by Maria Alves who helped us with all the information we needed to make the most out of our four days in Lisbon. The studio was a bit dark but it was confortable and had everything we...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.

“There is a room with a great view, we did not get it, but if you can get it, it is worth the $$.”

“If you're a little older, then request that you do not get apartment 2 - here, there is an awkward wooden ladder that leads up to the bedroom and the ceiling in the bedroom is so low that one can't stand straight..... it's OK, if you're young and/or flexible - but if you're not, then ask for a different apartment :)”

“when we return to Lisbon, we will certainly stay at the room with the Alfama/Baixa view or the one with the river view.”

“Not all apartments have a view overlooking the river Tagus. Ours didn't, but was still amazing. Check first if this is a priority for you.”
