It's not a five stars but you know it since the very first moment, perfect combination price/quality. It's central, 10 minutes walking from major attractions and 5 from the city center, there's metro stop at 1 minute same as the stop of the aerobus from the airport. Highly recommended from my point of view, staff is really friendly and helpful...

We like to avoid busy business hotels - this charming backstreet Pensao was a revelation. Like going back in time... in all the right ways. Travel is fun where you experience the local flavour, and sure the Elegante is not posh but it more than makes up for that with the wonderful location, quaint decor and friendly staff. Even the...

Ok so pros - great location, right next to the funicular railway and lots of good places to eat and drink, not far from the seafront. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cons- no heating. It was SO COLD!! There was one storage heater per floor. I was with a big group and that meant that most people did not...

Stayed here 2 times withind a week for short layovers., I booked it bcs something slightly better would have cost at least 5 times as much on my dates. I was very sceptical bcs of the extremely low price and almost got another place. However it turned out quite adequate for my midnight to 7 am stays. It is obviously...

Stayed here twice now, and will again. It's a bit of a walk up a hill to get there (restauradores metro stop, up the little tram alley right opposite the brown hard rock cafe building, and then turn right at some point.) Room has a shower, but toilets are shared. The place is clean and quaint. Given I only paid...

Situated close to Rossio station, it's a good spot to start your sightseeing. Plus, you get to see at least one tipical train which runs the next street. One tip though, in order not to die of exhaustion walking uphill, consider approaching the building from the north where you go a bit downhill - at the end of the day,...

I needed a place to crash for one night in Lisbon as my flight landed in Lisbon after the last train, that i needed to catch. I was a little apprehensive, due to the price, but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and spacious, and the wifi was excellent. My only grumble is that the shelf height in...

As our cheapest accommodation option throughout our trip we weren't expecting much other than a good location. We booked a room with a shared bathroom so weren't expecting to have a shower and a sink in our room. Towels were provided and changed, bed made and the roomed was cleaned daily. We also had a small balcony. The staff were...

Unbeatable value for money. Room was big and basic with a bathroom. Central just of the main road and close to tram and metro services. Was willing to keep baggage to be collected after checkout time.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
