This was our first hotel in Lisbon, so we had no frame of reference. The staff was polite, but not friendly or very helpful. The room was OK. The breakfast was dry rolls with coffee. Period. After seeing the treats in the pastellarias and what other hotels offered for breakfast, I wouldn't go back.

We've been there for a week in summer; even if at the first sight the hotel seemed a little shabby, it turned out to be clean and well handled. The staff was friendly and helpful for any question and the breakfast was very good in quantity and in quality. The forniture of the room was old style but clean and...

Ideal location at the centre of Baixa/Rossio, convenient for all parts of the city. The staff were great through the entire stay. As a budget option I would certainly reccomend it, sure the breakfast isn't the most sophisticated but it is satisfactory. The decor isn't all new, but that is part of the charm. I would much prefer to stay...

This hotel was really bad. The bed was shorter than I am and the ancient mattress was about 4 inches thick. There was no hot water in the mornings. The breakfast consisted of 2 rolls, one sweetish one and another that could not be eaten. We only had the breakfast once as the milk jug we were given had what...

Excellent location, really in heart of the city, close to all the city's attractions. Really close to lots of restaurant and little souvenir shops. Internet connection only at the reception. Breakfast quite poor, just a cup of coffee/tea and a 1 peace of bread with jam. The pension is quite old

This hotel we booked at the last minute. Paid 59e for a double room on booking.com. If you like something a bit chic and modern you will be dissapointed but if that doesn't matter you will be happy. The location is right in the centre you can walk to everything. I found the staff friendly. Although the hotel is very...

Although the hotel decor is in desperate need of updating, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the central location in the Baixa is very convenient. The continental breakfast is limited to a few buns with butter and jam and coffee, but lunch is the main meal in Portugal, and you can always snack on pastel de nata widely available...

Although inexpensive I wouldn't want to pay anymore for this standard of accomodation, in fact have paid less for a lot better. The place is a little run down with peeling wallpaper, poor bathroom & rather shabby furniture. There is no internet access facility. Jaime on the front desk is very helpful but he did recommend a Fado restaurant who...

First things first. The people at the front desk were just great. Very helpful and willing to answer all of my questions. I got a good room, the furniture is old but in good conditions, which gives the rooms a nice antique look. Very tidy, as well as the private WC with a great shower. Also the room had AC/Heating,...

We had read so many reviews about the wonderful person at the front desk, that we decided this place was for us. The rooms were okay but very loud street noise, as far as the breakfast terrible. Location was wonderful I do have to say. The person at the desk, I would have fired. Three different people at the desk...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
