I was a little skeptical having had some bad experience in this grade of accomodation before, however this establishment was great. Value for money was wonderful, and it was perfectly located in the heart of downtown Lisbon. Wifi signal was strong and they let us check in early (we dropped off our luggage in the room, the room wasn't actually...

It's a very nice, super-clean guest house. Location is perfect for site-seeing in Lisbon or trips out of Rossio station, and only a 20-minute cab ride from the airport. The staff were helpful and all spoke good English. The bathrooms and bedrooms were beautiful for the price you pay. This is a really nice place to stay .....you're really close...

It's a very nice, super-clean hotel and the pricing can't be beat. Service is fantastic -- there was always someone available at the front desk willing to go out of his way to make your stay enjoyable. Nothing about the furnishings or bathrooms was luxurious but everything was well put together. Location is perfect for site-seeing in Lisbon or trips...

While we were there, this hostel was undergoing renovations. Although they didn’t have a record of our reservation they accommodated us but it seemed like we were the only guests as the other rooms were being renovated. I was worried it would be noisy in the morning with the renovations but we didn't hear a thing. The staff were friendly....

The hotel is misplaced on Tripadvisor. It is just next to Rossio square. You can't do better for location. Our room (201/202) was clean, quiet but very gloomy. A room in a higher floor would maybe have been a bit brighter. The bedding was nice & firm. There was no staff to be seen during all our stay. Really had...

The location is THE BEST, no doubt about that - the location alone makes this an excellent choice. It's just a half minute walk from the Rossio square, which is where all the magic of the city happens. The room (I was in 306, ensuite) was bright and newly renovated with ikea furniture, and had a balcony, which is great....

First, the location is amazing. Just across the street from Rossio station, down the street from the train station to Sintra (which is a must see day trip), around the corner from the main attractions and buses, and walking distance to Barrio Alto. Second, the room is clean. However, the staff is so unhelpful and service so poor that it...

Although the location is central and good we had a very bad experience staying in this hotel. 1. We were told that we have to pay the total amount in advance. We were surprised because everytime we have booked and stayed in hotels , the total amount was taken at the end of the stay. 2. Once payment was completed,...

We booked a double room with a private bathroom at DownTown Guest House through HRS but after we had paid in full on check in (a big mistake) we were given a key to a room that had a shared bathroom. So we went down to reception and asked why we had a shared bathroom when we had quite clearly...

Stayed for 3 nights in October and was pleasantly surprised by my entire experience - the convenient and quiet location, pleasant staff, nice amenities and comfortable room... and all at such a wonderfully affordable rate! I would highly recommend the Downtown Guesthouse.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

Some rooms have twin beds pushed together, vs double beds. you have a choice of looking out on the courtyard (lack of privacy) or the street (lots of noise at night). pick your poison, but know what you're getting into.”
