After a day of sightseeing, coming back to Soar Do Castelo felt like coming home. The common area had expresso, snacks and newspapers for all to enjoy. The patio area was so inviting, especially with the full moon. It was very special to stay inside the castle walls. We loved every minute of our stay!!

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW

The Solar Do Castelo is just steps away from the entrance to the Castle and part of the oldest area of Lisbon. Winding, narrow streets, interesting little shops and cafe's plus you can walk down to the port area or to the Old Central District. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. They provide a very nice breakfast that runs late...

If you don't mind walking hills, staying up by the castle was a delight. The Inn has a wonderful courtyard, the quiet interruped only by the peacocks nearby... a beautiful sight! We stayed in room 12. While it did not have a balcony, the room was wonderful with one large window providing water views and three large windows overlooking the...

Our recent stay at the Solar Do Castelo was fabulous. Great location in Lisbon, generous breakfast buffet and snack bar, and lovely courtyard to unwind and watch the peacocks. But you never really know how good a hotel and the staff are until something goes wrong. We made a mistake booking and ended up needing a room for our last...

The area was also lovely! A perfect stay in Lisbon! The hotel was great, really helpful, giving maps and instructions. Our room was great! The peacocks were quite noisey! but quiet at night! Really great hotel, would recommend it :)

This is a beautiful, quiet, hotel with helpful and welcoming staff and a very comfortable, well furnished and prepared room. It is conveniently situated close to the Castell with easy access to the City centre, restaurants and public transport. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay; we plan to revisit.

Our room looks out over the courtyard, the city, and the harbor...truly magnificent view. Room is clean & comfortable...with roomy closets. The charming courtyard has kept the historic elements of the castle... Including the old castle kitchen well. A chorus of peacocks act as our alarm clock ... & they are even strolling around the courtyard entertaining all. Truly a...

Wonderful hotel, just steps away from Castelo de Sao Jorge. Beautiful grounds, comfortable rooms and professional staff. Delicious breakfast on site, and great restaurants nearby. I thought the peacocks made our stay even more special, but as others have noted, they were quite noisy, even at night. Would definitely stay here again.

The two nights we spent in this delightful place were memorable for the hotel's situation next to the castle, The bedroom was very comfortable with a good bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. It was also very relaxing to sit in the lounge or on the terrace with a coffee. Altogether lovely.

We picked this hotel out after long deliberation as to where best to stay in Lisbon. In hindsight, a really excellent choice both for being situated in Alfama and for the Solar Do Castelo. An unassuming hotel from the outside, but once through the blue door it opens up to a cosy lounge/dining area and a delightful courtyard, the latter...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
