If you love history and like being a part of it, this is the hotel for you. We could see the Castle St. Jorge from our window. The peacocks made a great wakeup call in the morning. We felt like we were staying in our grandmothers home. This hotel is that nice and relaxing. The continental breakfast that we included...

We had just a wonderful trip to Lissboa with my wife and a fellow couple. Actually, we did not know much about this hotell before, but now after the vacation I have to say that this small hotel is one of the best I have visited ever. The location is just perfect very near of the Castle of S. Jorge....

Solar do Castelo is a real treasure. It's on a quiet little street inside the outer walls of the São Jorge Castle. We walked with heavy bags from Martim Moniz metro stop - I wouldn't recommend doing this! You can get a taxi for less than €10, at least as far as the castle's outer walls. On arriving we were...

We had a faultless stay from start to finish. The hotel is in a lovely location, by the Castel. It means it is very quiet and does not feel like the middle of the city. The walk in to the main city is fine (10mins down, 15mins up). There are buses and trams too. The hotel itself is very nice,...

This hotel is in the most picturesque part of Lisbon and right next to the castle. The customer service was exceptional and rooms lovely and much bigger than any other European hotels. The fact it is hilly is not a problem as within a three minute walk you could take a bus or tram. There is some amazing little restaurants...

Great location within the outer walls of the castle. Comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast available until noon. Reported two minor problems and the hotel fixed them immediately. We would certainly use the hotel again.

A fantastic hotel. Staff were pleasant and courteous - really took care of us. The hotel itself is very well done and is rather beautiful, both inside and outside. Loved the free bottle of port wine in our hotel room upon arrival - loved it even more in that it was refilled everyday! Bed was comfortable, room was large, Wi-Fi...

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Solar do Castelo. The hotel is beautifully renovated and our room was large, modern, clean and comfortable. The great bath products, comfy robes and slippers and complimentary port wine were very much appreciated. It was nice having tea, coffee and pastries available in throughout the day in the lobby. Breakfast was a tasty...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
