This property is a hostal. If I had been wanting a hostal, it might have been OK, but renting it for my wife and I for a brief getaway was not a good idea. There are 66 stairs from the street to the reception. The house has no A/C and the floor to our miniscule bath was dirty and moldy....

I had a really interesting 1 night stay at this hostel. And yes, it is a hostel. I was able to book a private room with private bathroom on Airbnb.com, but checking in was difficult. The gentleman who ran the hostel seemed very overwhelmed since there was a glitch in the system. the hostel became overbooked and lots of people...

We are used to stay in hostels and we adapt easily to accomodations but not to extreme dirt! We stayed at the hostel for 2 nights, but we would have left straight away. It was horrible. More grim than design. The kitchen and bathrooms were filthy and smelly and the staff didn't seem to care about the hostel awful state....

Good value deal for central Lisbon. We had a room with shared bathroom/shower for our floor, but it wasn't an issue at all as the showers were always kept clean at all times & there was never a queue or any other issue with it. The hotel has ridiculously central location (if you're on Rossio square - it's just in the...

For a hostel it is excellent. The view form the common area is spectacular right to the main square You can walk anywhere or take the train to the beach. I recommend tram28. It takes 1-2 hours to go in each way but it worth it. Also, the restaurants around are really nice and cheap. The breakfast is pretty good for...

A very good and cozy place to spend a weekend. Close to monuments and with good transport to the beach. It is also veryo close to barrio alto and the clubs in the marina. There is no elevator or air conditioned butthe room was fresh.

A good place to stay for a weekend in Lisboa, close to main sights and with a very friendly staff. The room was clean and the breakfast was also good. The room had no air con, but it was still very fresh even in the summer season.

A very good place to stay in the center of lisboa for less than 45€. The staff was very polite and available and we also enjoyed the great breakfast. Our room was simple but clean and cozy. The bathrooms got wet sometimes and the staff was constantly cleaning them.

Location is absolutely superb. Just off a main square. Perfect base for exploring the landmarks and great for going out for food and drinks in the Bairro Alto. Breakfast is adequate and views from rooms are great. Friendly staff etc. would probably suit groups better than couples. Only down side I would say is having a shared bathroom (although the...

My friend and I stayed here 7 nights and the staff were mostly lovely(except night time guy), breakfast was very passable. Just had a few issues like with the WiFi; we didn't care that it didn't reach our room but every night at about 9pm the password would change and then inexplicably change back the next morning. Got sick of...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
