Let's do the easy stuff first. This B&B is in the thriving Chiado neighborhood suspended midway between the busy pedestrian shopping area of the Baixa, five minutes down the stairs, and Bairro Alta, the heart of restaurants and night life that is five minutes up the stairs. Zuzabed is on Calcada do Duque which is not a street but rather...

My daughter(21) and I traveled to Lisboa for the first time. After a short ride from the airport (with explicit instructions from Luis with address and how to avoid being taken by cab drivers) Luis was there to meet us at the door of our home away from home. Wow ...we were blown away. We stayed in one of Luis'...

If you are looking to immerse yourself in a true neighborhood experience and live like a Lisboan, then you must consider the Zuza Grand Suite. The cozy suite is one of 8 in an apt . building located on a charming, quiet, tidy little street. It is walking distance from the historical sites, BICA elevator ( a must for trolley...

Recently stayed at zuzabed and was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality afforded me by Luis. He couldn't do more for me, even supplied me with a local phone in case I had any problems. Zuzabed is very comfortable and located near to everything. Breakfast was great and could have eaten it all morning except there were things to see and...

Luis is the best! He is your consummate host in Lisbon, offering you a great central location for home base, a mobile phone for emergencies, and a fabulous breakfast to send you off for the day. Our terrace room was the smallest in the house, but no worries. Great patio with chaises for relaxing and viewing the city. The bath...

As well as the B&B, Luis has a few apartments in Lisbon and it was one of these - Zuzasuite - that we stayed in. It was absolutely fantastic and beyond our expectations, despite the wonderful reviews we had already read on Tripadvisor. To be perfectly honest I was slightly apprehensive about meeting Luis as, based on the reviews here,...

My husband & I stayed in one of Luis's self-catering apartments when his B&B was unavailable in mid October. We stayed at Zuza'City Break Suites in the Principe Real District and really enjoyed it. Luis gave us great advice before we arrived about taxi drivers from the airport. Sure enough the taxi driver tried to over charged us but being...

We stayed in one of Luis's self-catering apartments, the Zuzaroyal, and not in his B&B. The Zuzaroyal apartment we stayed in was a huge, high-ceiling, late 18th-century combination of modern conveniences, funky decor, and faded splendor. The most important thing was the perfect location, just below the Barrio Alto (i.e. not in the middle of the noise and the drunks),...

My wife and I came back from our first trip to Lisbon, and we are ready to go back tomorrow because of the phenomenal hospitality and kindness of the proprietor of Zuzabed and Breakfast. Luis is a gem! We stayed in the apartment on Rua de Flores, and thoroughly enjoyed spacious accommodation, privacy, and central location. Luis made our stay...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

“If you can, take the bigger room with the outside terrace. This room has a big window with fantastic views across the rooftops”

“If you do not want to sleep in late in the morning, book the Garden View Room. You will wake up to the sounds of the breakfast being prepared every morning (the kitchen is RIGHT next to the bedroom) BUT, after breakfast hours, you may never see another guest in the apartment space. You'll likely have all to yourself the living room, dining table and chairs, and lovely windows to supplement the bedroom space. Also the coffee & tea bar/cash bar is in this same space. ”
