My parents have stayed in this hotel 4 years running - and I decided to spend some time with them this year and stayed with them in this hotel. OK- the hotel may look a bit dated- however excellent value for money. Many of the staff have worked at the hotel for many years and they make the guests feel...

Spent 2 weeks here November/December. The hotel is a bit tired but everything worked and was clean. You wouldn't expect a 5 star hotel when you are paying 3 star prices. Our room was spotless, linen changed frequently, the bathroom was modern with plenty of hot water, beds firm but comfortable, kitchen tiny but adequate ( we brought our own...

This is definitely the ugliest building in Funchal. However, if you are on a budget, then this is not a bad stay. The location is very good and the rooms are clean. We just had breakfast and one evening meal, and the food seemed very good. The linen service is excellent and staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel really...

Arrived at the hotel late evening, Not much of a welcome from the old male Receptionist, Room was ok. With amazing Views, Had ants all over the telephone, so reported this the next morning, Nothing was done, so had to clean and get rid of the ants myself. My breakfast was included but only had this once out of my...

The general condition of the room was fair. The paintwork was chipped, tired and faded. the balcony was a dismal solid grey concrete monstrosity with louvre doors that were badly chipped, and had not seen fresh paint for at least 5 years, they were absolutely awful. The kitchen was ancient with a work surface that was blistered, cut through and...

We arrived at the hotel not expecting too much from the hotel, having read previous reviews but hotel far exceeded our expectations. Yes the outside is a bit dated but if it was painted like the others then you wouldn't know it is one of the older hotels in this area. You understand why they haven't painted it, as it...

This was our third stay at the Gorgulho. Other reviewers have noted the tired appearance of the exterior, which is true, but inside it is clean and comfortable. Very helpful staff. Great location, close to the bus stop, supermarket, Lido and park and several restaurants. There is also a relaible (not Timeshare!) Info Centre over the road, under the Monumental...

This was our third year at the Gorgulho and we would not stay anywhere else in Funchal, even though it is one of the ugliest buildings on the island! Staff friendly. Breakfast good. Ideal location. Our room was large with a beautiful sea view. We love to walk during the day and dine out at night and this hotel is...

We stayed in the Hotel Gorgulho for seven nights (20–27 May 2009) and it is true what other reviewers have said - that from the outside it is a bit ugly, but inside is very clean and tidy. The tiles on the exterior would be Portuguese azulejos (tiles) but in a modern style. Our room, 904, was quite small but...

Just got back from Gorgulho aparthotel. Yes it is an ugly building but, clean, friendly, ideally located and adequate breakfast. Located at the Lido area - loads of restaurants within walking distance. Bus stop - 2 min walk - buy a weekly giro card works out at 1 euro per trip instead of paying on the bus charging 2 euros. Airport bus...
