Hi, I really liked my stay in the hotel. It was right at the heart of the city and easy for sightseeing and seeking out night restaurants. I left behind my jacket in the wordbrobe in the room on my departure and when I rang the next day and they said they could not locate it. I visited the hotel two days later and they could still not find the jacket (€400). They suggested I left it elsewhere which was not the case. Anyway I enjoyed my stay none the less. John

We complained about the air conditioning being too noisy when turned off and asked for a replacement room. When we did move rooms the Toilet Door would not close. When we opened a side window we could always hear an air conditioning unit attached to the adjacent building. We asked for some compensation in view of two sleepless nights and this was turned down by the Manager. We did ask that perhaps our Bar Bill for 40 Euros could be refunded as compensation for our aggravation and this was refused. This is very poor customer service.

This is a very busy hotel. Our first room allocated had a problem with the air conditioning unit, in that when turned off it made a continual gurgling sound which made sleep difficult. We explained this to hotel reception and after 3 nights they moved us to a room where the bathroom door did not shut properly. We asked for some compensation for the inconvenience & after fobbing us off, they eventually said they would not consider compensation. We will not be returning. Breakfast choice is awful, eggs are cold, toaster doesn’t seem to toast. Location is good.

Amazing location steeped in history with modern facilities whilst preserving and enhancing the experience. The staff accomodating and very helpful, the foyer sitting area and bar area are like an oasis. This hotel on the corner of a busy street is in the very heart of Porto. The docks on the Douro River a short stroll away. We had the most delightful evening dinner at their restaurant which is set in the depths of the gallery of the hotel which is original anchient limestone blocks as is much of this city, hence the Unesco heritage listing. The only disappointment was our stay was for only one night.

Lovely hotel - we stayed in a duplex room with a balcony overlooking the city and the bedroom window had lovely view of the bridge and the river. The hotel is very well positioned amongst bars and restaurants. Very close to Cais da Ribeira - riverside promenade and the Luis l Bridge. Reception staff were all very helpful. Good selection of food for breakfast.

A corporate hotel, situated in the exact right spot, the Carris on the river has some rooms that provide spectacular views of this very active river. The hotel amenities are adequate, nothing all that special, but they work. Walk around the corner and your at the riverside, with great options for wine, lunch or dinner. Bacalau, A Grade, Adego, Quay Wine Bar …. all with good food and a fun time. Climb the hill streets in front of the hotel and you’ll find finer dining such as DOP, Traca, MISTU … fine options all. But the river is the killer deal. Spring for a room with the view.

We had a faboulous stay for 2 nights atbthe Carris Ribiera; yes we booked a Junior Suite so take on board other comments about disappointing rooms, but ours was amazing with huge window giving a panoramic view of the river, right over to thr Gaia side and the port houses beyond. It was a view you just couldn't get enough of. The location of the hotel is just perfect, one block from the river and walkable to pretty much any sight in the city. We didn't have an evening meal but we did have breakfast included which was adequate but nothing special with a good selection on cold cuts and a few hot offerings. Staff were very friendly and would definitely recommend.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Carris Ribeira. Our room was excellant with a fantastic view of the river and the city. The room was clean and comfortable. Our particular room had 2 balconies so we enjoyed listening to the performers on the boardwalk and a beautiful view of this ancient city. We were located just far enough from the riverside activity to enjoy the music but far enough away so they wouldn't keep us up at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

A creative use of some previously disused buildings on the dockside, although the interior fittings are already showing a fair bit of wear and tear. The setting makes it too noisy for good sleep, but for a couple of nights it offers an ideal base to explore both sides of the Douro. Breakfast options are comprehensive, too.

There is much to like about the Carris Porto Ribiera - the friendly staff, the excellent location, the tasteful renovation of the very old building, but not the bedrooms. We arrived after a long day of travel and were allocated a room where the only window looked out to a blank wall only 1 metre away. This is a light shaft, which delivers small amounts of daylight into the dingy, depressing room. Making matters worse there was no way of opening the window to provide ventilation to the room. Yes there is air conditioning, but that only recirculates the existing air in the room. We would have asked for a change of room, but were too tired to do that when we arrived. The bedroom was adequate in size, and quite well appointed, but we were glad to be moving on after our short stay. It's regrettable that in such an otherwise good hotel that guests would have to pay for upgraded rooms in order to have opening windows, or even a view.
