A really enjoyable stay at this unusual place. Set back from a main road in Porto, and up a drive and flight of stone steps, is this castle-like tower, set amid beautiful gardens. We were given a warm welcome and all the staff were very...More
our first night was in a peasant abode - complete with mildew and old bathroom. But our second night they upgraded us a grand room in the main castle which is a world of difference! It cost only a few euro more, but it was...More
From the street you could walk by without knowing what lies within - which is a beautiful oasis of a stay in Porto...you walk up the drive through the gate, past the lower garden, already surrounded by blue and white tiles including the tiny chapel...More
We spent two nights in the hotel and share the excitement of many other visitors who have positively reviewed this place. We had the room in the top of the tower (4th floor) called the Grand Suite. We loved it. It has a window to...More
Fascinating hotel, originally built as a private house by a textile tycoon but never lived in. Looks like a castle/convent with it's own private chapel. Blue ceramic wall tiles on outside, even on roof tiles. Lovely gardens to sit and relax in. Owners want to...More

You don't need a car in Porto, so it's better to take a cab or transit from the airport to the hotel. We did have a car and our GPS got us there easily from the highway, but we parked the car and didn't move it for the five days we were in Porto. I don't think we paid for parking, but I think it might be 10 euros a day. It's easy to take trains to places nearby if you want to visit Braga, etc. If you do park the car at the hotel, security is on all night. There had been a car break-in the week before we were there. We loved our stay at Hotel Santa Carolina.
