This was the neatest old hotel, great location close to the Sao Bento train station and other sights. The staff was very helpful, breakfast buffet was complete and tasty, garden outside was a little gem (wish we had gotten to it sooner than the day we left.) Bed was comfortable and shower worked well (important to both of us!) Lots...

The oldest hotel in Porto, showing its age in some ways but still an excellent place to stay. Luxury no, but good mid-range standard and excellent value for money. It is in amongst the upper town restaurants and sights and about 15 minutes walk down to the Ribiera/Quayside. Plusses: - Clean rooms, comfortable beds and good bathrooms - Excellent breakfast...

It's a bit of faded grandeur, with echoes of past glory - (though not that faded since its refurb.!!) If you want modern plastic perfection stay somewhere else. If you want quirky charm, period style, high ceilings and big windows, stay here. My favourite Porto mid price hotel. It's not smack bang in the absolute centre of things but it's...

We very much enjoy staying in older properties with plenty of character and tend to seek them out. This was perfect for us. Breakfast is taken in the Belle Epoque room. Such a delight. As was the selection of food on offer. They serve until 10.30am so no morning rush. Our room, 206 with a small balcony was on the...

I liked the old style of the Hotel. At the same time it appears clean and full of history. Perfect breakfast and good service. Location is perfect for a walk in central Oporto. Also you find nice bars/restaurants close to the Hotel.

We spent three nights there recently and loved the building with all its little landings and antiques - lots of souvenirs of a byegone age. Having read in some reviews about street noise we requested a quiet room at the back - and got one on the first floor at the front even though the hotel was not full. After...

Ive been to Portugal at least 15 times already. Coming from Goa ..its a home away from home. This time i decided to skip Lisboa and visit Porto instead and boy was that a Great decision. I checked in at the Grande Hotel Pais in Baixa Porto, a stones throw from Alaidos and Sao Bento train stations. From the time...

This hotel is a lovely older hotel decorated with many antiques. The location is perfect for exploring the city. Our day started with a most complete and varied breakfast in a charming breakfast room. A Friday night was the first night of our stay. Our room faced the street. Unfortunately, we were kept awake by young people returning from restaurants,...

Central location great for exploring city. Hotel has maintained its elegance from former days & staff helpful & friendly. Is next to nightlife so be prepared as buzzing until early hours, but not a big deal for us. Very good value in a lovely city.

I spent 3 nights in this hotel. Great location, beautiful garden and a wonderful breakfast but so noisy throughout Friday and Saturday night. It seems this street is the route from the trendy bars and restaurants down to the train station. It required ear plugs to get a nights sleep. I did complain to the management but they were booked...
