The hotel is in a great location. It is walking distance from the acropolis, and just across the road from the Temple of Zeus. However, the rooms are small and very hot. The air conditioning was not enough to address the heat (and this was May!). It is quite noisy, both outside and inside noise. Noise from the corridor was...

This hotel ticks most of the boxes for a great stay in Athens! The location is perfect for getting around to any of the high point sight in Athens..... quick walk to the Acropolis and the museum along with shops and restaurants. Staff is friendly and very accommodating and the rooms are well appointed. We were on the top floor...

Great location with the Temple of Zeus across the street and a view of the Acropolis behind the hotel. Within 5 minutes or less of the Plaka. Had a standard room with terrace. It did not have a view of the Temple or Acropolis but was absolutely ok, especially for the one night I was there. Buffet breakfast was sufficient,...

This is a gem. The location is sensational. Everything you want to see in the heart of Athens is literally just around the corner. For older travellers especially the distances are perfect. Breakfast on the rooftop is amazing. Staff are gorgeous and helpful. Rooms are small but incredibly comfortable.

Great breakfast . Very nice view of the city from the roof and from the room. There's no double glazing of the widows, so it's noisy at night. The staff was very kind and helpfull and we changed a room, which was without view but silent

Stayed for one week. Perfect location for all popular sites of Athens. The hotel is central to the Temple of Zeus, Arch of Hadrian and the beginning of the Plaka area. Syntagma square and Monastraki square are also within a few minutes walk. There is a wide pedestrian street to the Acropolis and Acropolis museum just behind the hotel so...

We were welcomed by very helpful and friendly staff which went all the way through the hotel. The views from the roof terrace restaurant were to die for, especially at night! On one side was the The Temple of Zeus and on the other a floodlit Parthenon about half a mile away. The food was amazing both at breakfast and...

Cant fault Athens Gate Hotel. Great location. Room good and very efficient and pleasant staff. The 360 view from rooftop bar/restaurant is unbelievable. The food in the restaurant is excellent and good value. Even if you stayed in a different hotel eating at this restaurant would be something to consider. The ribeye steak was exceptional. Located just a short walk...

All staff was very helpful, spoke good English, and very nice both at the door and the front desk. I can't say enough about the location being so centrally located, off of a main street (safe and I personally liked the street noise), ATM close by, and a little street market that went alongside the Acropolis was just one street...

Good location & helpful front staff, that explains this moderate sized hotel without much character. Breakfast buffet was acceptable. Not very child friendly. We had Zeus temple view that's on side of main road, but rooms are not noisy.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
