The hotel is very well located, just a block away from syntagma square, where you can take the bus to the airposrt for 5€, in a safe area infront of the parliament gardens, at a walking distance from the main atraccions of Athens : Acropolis, Acropolis museum, Temple of Zeus, Agora, Plaka, Monastiraki and so on, near caffes and and...

Having to book last minute from the middle of the Mediterranean , we found the Amelia, excellent reviews, near the Plaka and Parliament building main square. Well known to the taxi driver who took us there, guided tour on the way in, booked him to take us to the Airport. On arrival hands off the luggage. Upgraded to the executive...

Amalia Hotel is remarkably well located - opposite the beautiful National Gardens and Parliament and less than 5 minutes from Plaka. The rooms are good - not luxurious but functional to a high standard. My room with a balcony overlooking the National gardens, was well maintained and the balcony was roomy and private. The breakfast was good - a fair choice of fruit,...

My husband, daughter and I just recently came back from Athens and we stayed for 5 nights in this hotel. First, hotel is ideally located. It is literally 5 min walk from metro syntagma (if you come by metro from airport it takes some 40 min ride to syntagma) on main street. Very close to all major sights and next...

I stayed here at the end of June with a small tour group. Excellent location, about 10-20 minute walk to Plaka, Acropolis and its museum, and Monstraki. Very quiet, clean, and nicely appointed rooms, although some of the light switches were hard to find! A beautiful breakfast was also included. My room didn't have any views, so I made sure...

Located opposite the metro stop and open top bus tour stop, makes this hotel a great base for exploring Athens. Friendly professional staff throughout the hotel. Modern looking clean comfy rooms and an amazing buffet breakfast. The only downside is the traffic noise but with the windows closed, this isn't a problem. And the location certainly makes up for it....

So there I was in a not quite top of the range hotel in Athens albeit in a fantastic location next to Plaka – the old City - and Parliament, virtually in sight of the Acropolis. At first I was shocked that there was no iron, the air conditioning did not work (I could have set the heating, but I...

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
