This was the most expensive hotel my boyfriend and I stayed at while in Greece. Between our other hotels and Airbnbs, we probably averaged $40/night, but Astor Hotel was $129/night. And what extra amenities did that get us? Not much. Sure, there was a free continental breakfast, but the quality of the food was severely lacking. The best part was...

There were so many bad things about the Astor hotel that, despite its good location, that I must give it a very low rating. Things that made our stay very unpleasant: 1. The sheets were torn and sewn up with pink thread.. 2. The blankets had many holes in them. 3. The pillows were flimsy bags of torn filling. 4....

The hotel had a very friendly staff and the view from the breakfast room was breathtaking. The room inside left a lot to desire as it needed to be more updated. The bathroom shower was broken which made it challenging to shower. The construction that was happening on the street was too loud and this particular hotel has no parking....

We stayed 2 weeks in this hotel. Very very central. Perfect location. The hotel needs serious revamping. The curtains and the carpets are old and need replacements. Breakfast is average. It is all about location, location, location. Internet free in the lobby but you have to pay to use it in your room. BUT the main thing is that the...

This hotel is in a great position and the rooms are fine staff very helpful but the the carpet of the roof top breakfast room is really dirty and shows a lack of attention to an area that should be up to scratch given the nightly room rate. The hotel was updated in 2008 but it is already showing signs...

The hotel pitches itself as 4 star, but is nowhere close to being 4 star. Key issues being: - Broken shower holder, meaning you have to hold the faucet in your hand whilst showering. Upon complaining: told by staff that all the hotel's shower holders are in the same condition. - Faulty flush in toilet: Water kept running. After incessant...

The only positive things are (a) the location and (b) the clean room. I reserved a single room, but still although clean it was very small for a 4-star hotel. Breakfast was poor for a 4-star hotel; I noticed in particular that the tomatoes and cucumbers must have been sliced from the previous day; they were dry and so old....

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
