This hotel has a perfect location. 2 blocks from the subway and 1 block from the plaka. The room wasn't the greatest but that was more than offset by the friendliness of the staff and the great breakfast they had which was included in the room rate. The room was like any hotel that had been build many years ago,...

Surprisingly quiet, large rooms. Very clean. The hot water is a bit variable, the juice at breakfast should be avoided at all costs. The beds could use an upgrade. Balconies are quite and comfortable, but do not look out over the sights. We loved this hotel, but we are 2 and 3 stars devotees. Highly recommended.

The Airotel Parthenon is fantastically located, literally seconds away from the Acropolis and Parthenon, and in the trendy Plaka neighbourhood with great restaurants nearby. The hotel and rooms are clean, fairly spacious, well-lit and attractive, and service is very good. Great value for your money. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Athens.

We chose this hotel due to the location and price. Very pleasantly surprised when we finally arrived. The taxi driver had problems due to the fact that the area around the hotel is a one-way system, and also the Plaka district is right on the doorstep, which is full of extremely narrow, winding streets. But as the hotel is one...

I agree with many of the reviewers - the hotel rooms are not great. It claims four stars but would rate no better than three. The beds are not comfortable and the rooms are not very big. However, it has some good things going for it. The breakfast is ok apart from the juice which is horrible - it seems...

The hotel is in a good location although hard to find if you don't know where you're going. We took the bus from the airport to Syntagma square and NO TAXI WOULD TAKE US TO THE HOTEL. We asked 5 different cab drivers. So on the 6th try we had the driver take us to the top of the Acropolis...

I was a bit disappointed by this hotel, although it felt harsh to give only two stars. The location is great for the historic sights of Athens but there is not a great deal more to recommend unless you are happy just for a fairly budget stay in a good location. The hotel seemed a bit dated. The rooms were...

Booked a triple and asked for a quiet room. Were given a top (5th) floor room at the end of a hall facing a courtyard - not a whisper of outdoor noise. The room to room noise was also good, but somewhat odd in its character. One afternoon I walked by the room next door and heard a woman shouting,...

Having been to Athens before but going again for only 2 nights I wanted something very central, this hotel is in a great location. Right near the Acropolis and not from Sytemga the shopping strip. There are lots of restuarants nearby though many are touristy and pricey. We walked from the hotel to the major attractions quite easily even in...

We were four women travelers and were very happy there because of the location which was 5 minutes from the Acropolis. The rooms were very adequate and the price reasonable. It did not appear that the rooms had been renovated (or at least the carpet replaced) in quite some time and the hallways were dingy in spots. Elevators (lifts) were...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
