Very nice design-boutique hotel in the heart of Athens. It seems a jewel in a poor looking neighbourhood. after dinner we returned to the hotel walking and had no difficulties. Perhaps we were lucky?! But it is very centraly situated, very near Athinis between the Omonia square and the Monasteraki square and near by the City Hall and the Central...

Although it tries very hard to rise above it, as others have said, this class act is let down (only very slightly) by its location. It is in a rather gritty/insalubrious area, but not replete with drug users/drug addicts/prostitutes as others have suggested. At no time did I feel unsafe as I would have in similar areas in Australia or...

The hotel is fashionable and trendy. Everyone here wanted to be here. Hip couples, young families... Service was excellent and paved the way for a great impression of Greeks in general. Rooftop bar during sunset rocks and the view is amazing. Only problem here has to be the size of the rooms and location. While the rooms are nicely done...

Pretty funky hotel built 10 years ago for the Olympics and showing a little bit of wear. Rooms are on the small side but that was OK and we aren't the type to spend a lot of time in the hotel. Reception staff were terrific, genuine people who really tried to be helpful - especially Elena. The breakfast room and...

The hotel was great. Although on the edge of a slightly dodgy neighbourhood, the hotel had very helpful staff, a great bar, and nice rooms. I would stay there again.

We were looking for a 3 night stay in Athens in a funky, boutiquey place that had all the mod-cons but with some personality - Fresh fits the bill. Walking distance from Plaka, Acropolis and Syntagma, and right next door to a fresh fish/meat/olive market that exudes atmosphere, the place couldn't be better. Its decor is cool and fresh and...

Get ready for it: The desk clerks are the best I've ever encountered in the business. Capable, cheerful, they multi-task, serving several clients at once without anyone feeling neglected. They walk you to your cab and check to see if it's the right one. I've never run into this before. As to the hotel, our room and mattress were great!...

The best part about this hotel is the rooftop view. Amazing. The breakfast is good, the service was generally good (we had one rude person checking us in, but after that, everyone was lovely), and the location was pretty central. It didn't feel like the safest of neighborhoods come nighttime, but I probably wouldn't have wanted to wander anywhere in...

This is a nice little cool n trendy hotel (think of a Ikea store) near the Athens city center. The hotel was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The room was very small with no room to walk (think Times Square New York Hotels) but functional – there was table, chair, small loveseat and a mini-fridge (minibar). The...

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
