This being our first time to Athens we didn't know what to expect. We took bus 51 from the KTEL bus station to get to downtown Athens and then just walked to our hotel which was decently close. The hotel is about a 10 to...More
We grabbed a cab from the airport and headed to the hotel. Cab ride was great, brought us through the meat market which was interesting to see. Upon exiting the cab ride we are welcomed by the glass door entrance to Athinaikon. The entrance...More

Thanks very much for your review Janine and also for the detailed description and guide tips on Athens. Im sure this will help many travelers visiting our city for the first time. I would even

This hotel is in very good location, in between three main squares of the city (Sintagma, Monastiraki and Omonia), very close (not even 5 min walk) to the metro station Monastiraki (from there you take direct metro to the airport). There is a market (agora)...More

Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a
sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
