It is said that Omonia ceased to be a respectful area. I paid 222 euros to stay at Hotel Vienna for six nights, and never felt unsafe in the area. Rather this place is very convenient and lively. Omonia is near the city center, and two metro lines meet here. There are many good and reasonably priced eating places here....

Pros: 1. Exactly 200 m from Omonia Square metro station, approximately 5 min walk, which makes it very convenient to most major archaeological and tourist sites, especially because Omonia Square is on two different metro lines. Omonia Square metro stop is also the closest station to the Greek National Archaeological Museum which displays the Antikythera Mechanism and Agammemnon Mask. All...

My wife and I stayed at the Vienna hotel for three nights while in Athens, prior to flying home. It is a family run hotel, the staff are friendly, able to help with any information being asked by the guests. They all speak excellent English. The rooms are standard, quite clean, HD TV, shower stall, two elevators. It is in...

Very helpful staff who told us about where to get the entrance tickets to the tourist sights and how the one ticket can allow us to go to 5 other sights (e.g.: Acropolis, etc). Told us which route to walk and which route not safe to walk. The hotel is very near the Omonia metro station which links you to...

First, this is a basic, no-frills kind of hotel...so no expectations of this being a Hilton, Hyatt, or even a Premier Inn/Hampton Inn. It serves the purpose of having a place to sleep, shower, and the other. The shower "stall" is a corner open area with a hand-held shower head so it's not full shower stall with a curtain or...

I stayed at the Vienna for 7 nights in May 2015. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained and the staff were very helpful at all times. It is 3 mins walk from Omonia metro and convenient for all transport. All the staff were lovely, and always helpful.they assisted me to book tours and to give directions find routes...

Decent, clean place and close to all the tourist attractions. Couple of blocks from the Omonia metro station. Staff was quite helpful. Rooms were small and the bathrooms were smaller. But value for money nevertheless

As I wanted to spend just a night in Athens to catch an early morning train from Larissa railway station, I chose this hotel after researching on Tripadvisor. The station is about 15 mints walking distance with a heavy backpack. The location of this hotel is in slightly run down looking residential and business area. It is not ideally located for...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was OK if you don't seek many facilities of a hotel; Simple rooms with cable TV and hot water all the time. On the last day of our stay, they kept our luggage until our plane departure time. The receptionists were helpful and welcoming and they have great memory of...

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
