It's always good to revisit and update so here's the latest on my favourite hotel in Heraklion. We stayed there recently while travelling across the island and I'm delighted to tell you that it's as good as ever and better in some respects! There are...More
We stayed at this lovely family run hotel for a week while on holiday in Crete, it was very well situated for visiting attractions and for the airport, although the planes didn't disturb us at all! The staff were all very polite and helpful and...More
We are so grateful to Sofia Hotel as we missed our flight home due to a medical issue and arrived at 4am without a reservation. The guy in reception was so helpful and we were given a room and although the hotel was full the...More
We stayed at the Sofia because our flight got in late, and we did not want to make the long drive to Chania that night. The room was very average, but clean. The bed was not the most comfortable, but again it was OK for...More
If you want to be near the airport it would be hard to beat Sofia Hotel as a convenient, pleasant place to stay. It's so close to the airport that departing planes can be obtrusive when you are outside at the pool or bar but...More

The ancient site of Knossos is well worth a visit and can be accessed from the main bus station by local bus, there are also museums, galleries and old churches that are worth a visit. The town centre of Heraklion is packed with shops and some malls just ask at your hotel reception. You will find English spoken practically everywhere and judging by the clarity of your question you should be fine. The Cretan people are warm, welcoming, cultured and very helpful so have a wonderful time!
