Small lovely cafe in Stockholm Old Town. Space during busy tourist hours. Swedish cakes and traditional 'örnvilor'. Old furniture, fresh roses and candles. Opportunity to have your cup of coffee outside as well.

It's not a bad hotel at all, mainly because of location. Anyway, there's no lift (our room was in the 3 floor), no 24 hour reception, average breakfast, and too small room to hold clothes. Very little tv, as well, no fine wi-fi connection, and windows facing the front wall of the very narrow street. No romantic according my expectatives.

We were on a two-week trip to Sweden visiting family and friends. I wanted our last few nights to be in a hotel in the heart of Stockholm. We considered staying at a name-brand hotel but a) they don't have much charm and b) they are ridiculously priced. Family of four: me, my wife, teenage daughter, and pre-teen son. When... More

This is a small hotel in a building dating from the early seventeenth century. It is set on a very small square between two narrow lanes which connect the two main tourist streets in Gamla Stan. The lower floor contains reception and a small café, which is used for breakfast, and the rooms are on the three floors above. The... More

An excellent place to stay in the old town. OK for a few days for tourists but not for business travellers. Above a cafe in the centre down a side street, so don't expect 24 hour service or much info available. However, the rooms are quirky (but with no air con I imagine very stuffy for the couple of weeks... More

We were mother/daughter travelling in Sweden and wanted something central in the old part of Stockholm. This hotel was a wonderful find - it is bang in the middle of Stamla Gan - the oldest and central part of the city, and therefore great to reach every part of the city. The hotel is very old, narrow (not suitable for... More

If you want to visit the 18th century, stay here. Even the room key was authentic; it weighed a pound. It is a little hard to get to the rooms, circular stairway and worn stone steps, but the rooms are large and tastefully decorated. I would recommend for anyone interested in authenticity.

We arrived early and Olivia graciously welcomed us in. It was like arriving in the 17th century. She took our bags and secured our belongings while we toured the city. Later, when we returned she led us up the original, winding staircase to our room (this is not a hotel appropriate for people with disabilities). Crisp, fluffy beds, beautiful hardwood... More

We were strolling around Gamla Stan and just saw this place tucked away in cute small street and could not resist taking a peek. A hotel with a smallish cute restaurant for quick bite & coffee. The coffee & cakes were very good. I tried a sandwich & cant say I did not enjoy it. The staff was good. It... More

While sightseeing on Gamla Stan, we stopped for FIKA here. Great little place for fresh bakery and to sit with a quiet cup of coffee. The food was great and the service was excellent. It is a hotel built in 1607.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
