We had stayed previously at the Icelandair Hotel Vik so we had high expectations. This hotel is definitely nice and the service was good but it just feels more like a chain brand than the one in Vik which felt more boutique.

Very nice and clean place to stay. Would put in line with a Hampton Inn or equivalent in the US. Only complaint is that our heater kicked on in the middle of the night and it was about 85 degrees when we woke up drenched...More
The hotel is in the middle of the city so no chance to see northern lights and it was a bit loud while trying to fall asleep. I booked through hotels.com and therefor it did not include breakfast but the receptionist did not tell me...More
A very clean and basic hotel from which to base your travels in the northern part of Iceland. The hotel is located in Akureyri and the rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was okay; selection was good, but some items, such as the eggs...More

I assume all rooms are similar and therefore cannot comment on which is the best. Akureyri is a beautiful little town at the end of a fjord. There are lots of small shops and restaurants although the hotel restaurant is wonderful. Right across the street is an outdoor geothermal swimming pool. It is open to the public for a fee.
The Lake Myvatn area is not far. Lava fields, waterfalls and a rustic geothermal pool are not to be missed.
