The trademark of Iceland, the great Geysir, gave the hotel its name and Geysir is situated right outside the front door of the hotel. Haukadalur is one of Iceland's most famous historical sites, both ancient and today. The farmer's son from Haukadalur, Sigurdur Greipsson, founded a sports school in his father's inheritance at Haukadalur, which he operated with his wife Sigrun Bjarnadottir for a period of forty-three years. Today Hotel Geysir is run by descendant of Sigurdur Greipsson, Mar Sigurdsson (youngest son of Sigurdur and Sigrun) and his wife Sigridur Vilhjalmsdottur along with their children, Mabil Groa and Sigurdur. The Geysir-Center, which is directly opposite the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur, consists of a whole building complex with elegant restaurants, souvenir shop, outdoor and clothing store, snack shop, Geysir museum with multimedia show and camping area.

Also there is a golf course, fishing, hiking trails, outdoor paradise the Haukadalur woods, Langjokull glacier tours and other activities such as highland tours.

Therefore it is perfect for day trips because of many different possibilities of entertainment. His landmark of Iceland is a spectacular natural phenomenon beyond description. The geothermal field surrounding the Great Geyser is the definitive geyser, having given its name to the geological phenomena. The Strokkur, another famous geyser located nearby, gives a performance every few minutes, shooting a tower of water and steam 30 meters into the air. There are other attractions apart from the magnificent geysers.

For example, Blesi, a hot spring with water the colour of turquoise delights the senses. Walking about this natural wonder, one experiences the intensity of the forces of nature. Night time offers a fascinating view of the bubbling hot springs and the northern lights. A pot of boiling water takes on new dimensions. We place great pride in that all are equally pleased at the arrival and departure and your stay will be pleasant and memorable.Hotel RoomsThe hotel has twenty four double studio rooms in bungalows beside the river and twelve rooms in one wing, just two minutes from the thermal fields. All in all, this has to be the perfect framework for rest, relaxation, and getting charged up for the next activity. Access for disabled people is available both in hotel rooms, restaurants and toilets. The hotel has hot tub indoor with water from the geser, which are good to relax after a walk around the area.

Iceland is an island capable of tempting visitors to a host of activities. One should however not forget that vacations are also for taking advantage of time by relaxing body and soul to the utmost. To reach this level of relaxation it is essential that the surroundings be conducive to this.

I could not recommend this hotel enough! We got there late around 9pm and the staff was pleasant and gave us clear instructions how to get to our room and how to find the breakfast place in the morning. The hotel is sloping so the 2nd floor in the lobby and the 3rd floor are the guest rooms. The 1st floor is the Geysir Restaurant which also opens up to the side of the hotel. The hotel looked posh and new with industrial look. Their beds were super comfy, we sank in it! Probably the best bed we’ve had in two weeks! The room was just about the right size for 2ppl and there was even a small window sitting area tucked behind the curtains. Their breakfast was a feast, it had a great layout and was spread-out. While eating breakfast, you can look out into the pathway leading the geysirs, giving you a glimpse of how close this attraction was to your hotel. You only need to cross the street and it’s right there! This hotel also owns the Litli (Little) Geysir hotel which was cheaper but between the two, the Hotel rate is not much different and offers more. I have read somewhere that if there is not alot of bookings in the Litli Geysir, then they “upgrade” the guest to the Hotel. I dont know if the Litli guests can walk over to the Hotel and get their breakfast also, or if they are served separately. They do ask for your room number when you get your breakfast though to track guests. The only thing we had a hard time was trying to get to the parking lot of this hotel because this area was very dark. I think they purposely left the area dark for easier Northern Lights viewing, but because these buildings are close to each other and all say Geysir (Geysir Center, Geysir Restaurant, Geysir Hotel, Litli Geysir) then we do not know which parking lot to pull in because we could not see/understand the writing also on the building. The GPS of course is only a dot or arrow to that spot so you’d have to guess where to turn when they are so close to each other. I wish they turn on parking lights when it is raining, cloudy or bad weather and no possibility of aurora being seen.

Lodging options in Geysis are limited but, fortunately, the eponymous Hotel Geysir works. It is an attractive hote with modern/updated room. The breakfast buffet is average and satisfying. The dining room for dinner was good with some excellent entrees, typically priced for Iceland. The hotel is directly across the street from the geothermal area. If your Iceland travels bring you to this area, Hotel Geysir is a solid choice.

Amazing architecture of the hotel, beautiful lobby, restaurant and rooms. When the buses stop pouring in the city, you can go to see geysirs, sit there and enjoy them during sunset. Food in their restaurant was also perfect. We were looking for activities listed by Bookings like fishing/horse riding/cycling/snorkling:)). None of these are providing by hotel - they give you telephone number on lady who has horse riding but in September when I called it was full 4 days ahead. Still the cleanest and most beautiful hotel we stayied during the whole trip in Iceland. For one night its nice to stay. Geysirs are 2min walk, parking behind the hotel.

We stayed here as part of the Essence of Iceland tour. It has a wonderful restaurant with great service. The geyser next door is beautiful and a nice little stroll around. The rooms are very comfortable and a great view. There are all European outlets so if your from North America bring adapters.

A great modern and designed hotel next to the hotsprings. Spacious areas and room with breathtaking view. Very tasty dinner. Minutes drive from Gulfoss falls. When we arrived they couldnt find our reservation and that was stressfull as it was our first night in Iceland. The pavement was very slippery towards the car park. I would like to return back and stay more nights there.

The hotel sits across from the geysir field. It’s a modern, modest structure on the outside, but inside it’s ultra modern with a combination of stone and plants to provide contrast. The rooms are large and comfortable. Our room had a balcony door that opened…no balcony perse but it opened such that the whole room was like a balcony. It’s nicely located in the Golden Circle. The best hotel we stayed at in Iceland (and maybe anywhere).

Pay attention to pattern of reviews related to customer service. It is true. This is a tough review to write, because I can understand the 5 star reviews based on design and first impressions. Reviews are what influenced my decision. However, on multiple occasions the staff not only did not seem interested in the hospitality industry, they were clearly annoyed. We could not overlook the attitude and lack of training, despite how attractive the Junior Suite and common areas. Of the 6 accommodations we booked in Iceland, this was by far the most expensive and the most disappointing. A few examples: 1) We could not regulate the temperature in the room. A young man at reception reluctantly came to the room and crawled hands and knees to the regulator behind furniture to adjust. A lot of eye rolling as if this was something we should have known how to do. Upon leaving, he mumbled under his breath and slammed the door. Not kidding. 2) When requesting ice from the bar for the room (only way to get it), the staff person from the bar basically said “this is not my job.” We felt we needed to apologize. 3) The shower was difficult to operate. Again, a different person from reception acted as if we were idiots. A customer should not be put on the offensive. A few other things to consider. There is no mini fridge in any of the rooms, despite there is clearly a space for such. Cutting corners. We are older adults and you cannot drive up close to the entrance at all. Parking was a bit far away. Upon check-in we inquired if there was a closer entrance for us to manage luggage, and the reception staff merely pointed without comment to a nearby wheeled luggage carrier. There is one person at a small desk doing check in-check out and there was a wait both ways. The hallways and common areas are very, very dark. While that may be atmospheric, it is almost a safety hazard. Again, appearance was impressive, but I would have much preferred a less expensive, simpler nearby place with helpful, courteous staff. Only one person ever asked how things were, and that was at check out. By then, it was far too late, and the list too long and time consuming to delay our departure. I sincerely hope management takes note.
