Having booked the hostel very last minute we werent sure what to expect but on the first night decided to extend our stay by three days as it is excellent. The outside is just a wooden door, but when you go upstairs you find a bar and restaurant area as well as plenty of sofas, board games and books for...

Very comfy beds and you can bring your won sleeping bag to save on paying for linen, although the linen is worth it. I walked past the door a couple of times before I found it as it's not so obvious, but inside is a fantastic, cozy, cool area for chilling, bar, eating etc. I did a tour with their...

I cannot emphasize how naturally one can behave in this Hostel environment. It is in my mind the most casually friendly and altruistically minded "larger" hostel in the capital area. Whereas most places in the capital have somewhat succumbed to a certain amount of commercialization, Kex Hostel is truly the exception to this rule. Indicative of the Icelandic Spirit of...

Unfortunately, we didn't stay in the hostel -but we did make sure to eat there after reading how good the food was and reasonable (which is what you also want to look for in Iceland). It's a hard building to find at night, if you haven't been there before but once you find the entrance to the door and walk...

this has probably been one of my favorite hostels I've stayed in. Very convenient location to downtown but still has an amazing view of the water. I stayed in a 16 bed dorm and it was fairly pleasant. Most travelers were respectful of people sleeping and kept it quiet. The room was kept very warm so I didn't feel the...

The laid back atmosphere, decor and helpful staff were so great!! the rooms/dorms were clean and bathrooms and kitchen on our floor were always well maintained. We also booked a place on their own golden circle tour which was perfect with a lunch, beer, biscuits and entertainment provided! Great location under a 10 minute walk to the harbour, 5 mins...

I visited Kex Hostel a few years ago in February and had the best time. Comfortable room with great view of the snow covered mountains. Delicious food and friendly, helpful staff. It's opposite a car hire place which is really useful if you want to do some day trips around the surrounding area. The hostel is in a central location,...

Really friendly atmosphere, everyone is there for a good time. I felt very comfortable there with lots of interesting people to mingle with. Good value for money, we stayed in the 12 bedroom in the bunk beds. You can get fresh towels every day! Would recommend KEX so you can spend money on more amazing experiences in Iceland. Also a...

Don't let the entrance scare you because once inside it transforms into an eclectic environment. Great place for lodging and drinks at night - very popular. Every night there was a band playing. Breakfast was delicious. First time staying at a hostel and wasn't disappointed. Staff was very accommodating, assisted us with transportation to and from the airport. Gave us...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
