It can be difficult to find an inexpensive hotel in an expensive city before leaving on a trip. Even with reviews it's still difficult. And when you arrive at 11:30PM on a cold wet night to an empty cold building with an elevator too small to accommodate 3 people and their luggage ...what a nice welcome when you finally walk...

I'm not a snob about hotels/motels, in fact, I usually stay at family run pensions when I'm in Europe but I found this pension to be old, musty and poorly kept and not clean. It is by far the worst I've stayed in Europe. The bed was uncomfortable, the bed frame falling apart and the walls were missing their artwork....

This frumpy old pension was obviously once an apartment for a wealthy local resident. It is located on the 5th. and 6th. floors of an office and apartment building beside the classy Regina Hotel, just two blocks from The Ring and near the Votive Church. In spite of the aged appearance, the rooms are large and have good bathrooms with...

The pension is historic, easily accessible by transportation, and is right behind Votivkirche. You can take an elevator to it, but not right in the immediate lobby, so make sure that you do not have a heavy stroller if traveling with kids. The interior of the pension is charming: old period furniture, frivolously naughty and also serious pictures on the...

I'm from Vienna and spent a lot of time looking for a good hotel for friends and family coming to my wedding. Pension Franz was my favorite. It's a got a lot of character (old furniture, red carpets, a fancy old staircase). It's well located. It's inexpensive (a few hotels were cheaper - but they also did not have the...

it does have some charming antiquities & haunted paintings looking at you while you eat breakfast! i only stayed on for 2 days. it was a really good price, it was clean & comfortable. I stayed in a 3 person room. the only issue i experienced was the window. it was a european heat wave & the windows couldn't be...

The best thing about the hotel is location. Rooms are ok, so it was the bathroom, even if a strange odour came from it sometimes. Decorations of the hotel are nice, except the breakfast room, which needed some renovation (the wallpaper came off in a few places). Staff is helpful, they fixed immediately the odour problem. I found that breakfast...

On arriving at the hotel i was asked if i wanted a quite room at the back of the hotel. I decided instead to take the 'slightly noisey' room at the side and was so pleased that i did as the room was not noisey at all, absolutely huge (i was on my own and had 4 beds to choose...

Also the breakfast in the morning was buffet with different kind of bread and also fruits served. At the first view on the main building , it...

With two children, 9 years, and 10 month old I was happy to find a good-looking hotel with family room in the center of Vienna, at quite a good price. On our arriving the first surprise was, that the hotel is in a house, like a very big luxury apartement! That was on the 1st floor. The reception and lobby...

Staying in Serviten Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
Serviten Quarter
The Serviten Quarter is an inner city neighbourhood with many private charms. Popular with French and American expats, Sigmund Freud’s neighbourhood boasts his former practice and apartments, now turned into a museum. Stunning Liechtenstein Garden Palace houses the private art collection of Prince Adam of Liechtenstein. Romantic Strudlhofstiege close to the palace is a fantastic photo spot. With their small independent shops and eateries, the main streets of Liechtensteinstrasse, Porzellangasse and Servitengasse reveal much of this area’s character. Peek into baroque Serviten Church, with its richly decorated dome and walls. At the Old Jewish cemetery in Seegasse you can see one of the most precious cemeteries in Europe with tombstones almost 500 years old.

“If you like to sleep in request to get a room that is away from the breakfast room as this is very busy in the morning. We stayed on the top level and had no noise issues.”
