The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna, seems to divide opinion among its guests. While its prime location is universally celebrated, making it a perfect base for exploring the city, the value it offers is contentious, with numerous travelers suggesting it falls short in providing bang for their buck. The hotel's amenities, including the rooftop bar and club lounge, receive applause despite some grumbles about high costs. Guest experiences with the rooms are less favorable, often described as unclean and needing updates, and while the service is typically excellent, inconsistencies are noted.

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Vienna and experienced excellent personalized service . At the reception , Oliver greeted us , ensured we were familiar with the hotel and at every turn offered to assist us . The staff at the breakfast and bar were equally professional and welcoming . Our room had a balcony , no particular view but was extremely quiet .The location was very convenient to walk to all the major sights .
The pool and spa facilities are modern and clean . I would say the only draw back to this hotel was the doormen , who were often absent and encouraged us to take taxis (the only time we did ,the taxi charged us double the uber rate - I believe the doorman should have advised us that there was a fixed rate .)
Below delicious cocktail and view from our room

I've stayed at several Conrad & Waldorf hotels from Hilton, but this was my first time staying at a Ritz Carlton. I highly recommend this Vienna hotel! Rooms were nice, spacious, and clean! Very luxurious! Dijana made our stay exceptional! I felt like she was family by the time we left! Concierge was also essential in securing us some opera tickets. When I had looked online only very expensive tickets were available. The concierge was able to get us cheaper tier tickets for a small service fee. We arranged this in advance by email and credit card. It was a life saver as we didn't want to miss out on the Vienna Opera. Hotel location is excellent as it's feet from the trolley line and a brisk walk to the subway station. Beautiful gardens, shops, and restaurants are all a small walk in whichever direction. We missed out on the roof bar as it closes early, but there are several nice on-site restaurants including a steakhouse and also a Sicilian restaurant. There's a spa and pool in the lower ground level. I would absolutely stay at the Ritz in Vienna again.

Ritz-Carlton is for many synonymous with luxury. But what luxury means nowadays? Honestly, the hotel offers rooms, which you may find in many hotels, not necessarily 5*. Large bed, nice linen, spacious bathroom with marble on the floor and walls, Nespresso coffee machine. So, what makes 5*, in case of Ritz-Carlton. In my opinion: 1) absolutely fantastic location at the Schubert ring, near the park and underground station, 15 minutes to Steffl, 5 minutes to Opera and Musikverein, 2) aesthetics of the building façade, 3) very good service, with helpful, merry consierge, 4) cheeses, juices, salmon and eggs during the breakfast; 5) pool and saunas, 6) windows that you can open if you wish. The breakfast itself was of a very good quality but offered a bit too limited choice of food.

Had 4 fabulous nights at the Ritz Carlton Vienna to celebrate my husbands Birthday.
The staff, rooms and ambience were wonderful,a truly 5 star experience .
The staff really make this hotel work,we firsty met Oliver on reception who was very helpful and was able to give us advice as my husbands luggage didnt arrive till next day .The staff in the restaurant, concierge and luggage attendant were all exceptionally friendly and polite .
We were unexpectedly treated to drinks on arrival in our room ,then later had a gift presented from the bar staff for my husbands Birthday and to cheer him up as his luggage hadnt arrived .!
Then he had cake, balloons ,cards and more drinks on the Big Day .
Our room was overlooking the quadrangle but was very quiet, the amenities were first class and bed was very comfortable .
We had dinner our first night in The Steak House ,which was fabulous as was the breakfasts .
My only complaint was that the room was too hot (the winter heating was unable to be altered)but we were to be fair, offered another room ,we just kept the windows open to try and cool it down a bit more .
The swimming pool /gym attendant was also exceptionally helpful and friendly when I used the pool(also warm !)and the spa area was lovely.
I would like to thank the staff and management for making our stay so special and going that extra mile to make you feel welcome .
We wouldnt hesitate to reccommend The Ritz Carlton to anyone visiting Vienna .

My best friend and I try to travel to different Christmas markets each year and will always book afternoon tea somewhere. The Ritz was beautifully set out for afternoon tea which was accompanied by a small musical group which added to the ‘Christmas’ atmosphere beautifully. They also had their own Christmas market on the roof which was a couple of small wooden huts where you could go and sit and have a drink. Although it was quite small it was still an added touch to make you feel welcome and had great views over the lit up city. Normally only residents are allowed up onto the roof but my friend had arranged it before we travelled. A lovely little treat after our afternoon tea. My friend is gluten free and they went out of their way to accommodate. I was told it was delicious!

This place is not worth $600 a night for their cheapest room. I’ve had better rooms at 3 star airport hotels. First room they gave me had a problem with the shower water, it would go boiling hot, cold, warm constantly rotating through those temps no matter what I set it so, so they moved me. The new room has the same problem with the water temperatures, boiling hot to cold to warm rotating no matter what temp I set it at.

The robe is hard and doesn’t even wrap around me and I’m a size 10, it’s way too small and should not be the default robe choice. The bathroom shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner stink of a million roses. As someone sensitive to smells I called and asked if they have another option and was told no. So I had to go to the store and buy my own products. For $600 a night you’re telling me everyone including guys wants to smell like a million roses?

With all the snow outside there is so much water and snow puddles on the tile floor when I walk to and from my room. Why are there not rugs or someone cleaning those puddles up throughout the day to prevent slips?

Also such weird stains all over the walls and furniture and mold in the shower, weird dings all over the furniture too. No attention to detail at all for a supposed to be 5 star hotel.

My room has an issue with housekeeping every day, one day no new towels were left, another day they didn't refill the waters, another day they didn't take out the trash, another day they didn't remove all the empty water bottles on the counter. Stains all over the mirrors as they are never cleaned, stains on my bedsheets despite my request to get new sheets, some sort of sand on the floor that took 3 days for someone to vacuum up, mold in the shower, etc.

There is never a doorman or someone to help with bags or open the car doors or anything I would expect in a 5 star hotel.

So many things have been a mess for my stay here. Avoid this hotel unless you have money to waste.

We stayed at the hotel for 8 wonderful nights. The hotel is very nice, the room was spacious, with a lot of space to put the clothes, belongings and bathroom accessories. The bed was very comfortable and pampering with comfortable white linens. The room was bright, not like dark rooms in many other hotels, and had large mirrors, another detail that is not always found in a hotel. The hotel has a 24-hour gym, which was excellent for us. The spa complex also has a wonderful, large pool, very fun for swimming and has a jacuzzi that relaxes the muscles after a full day of hiking. It was a real treat.
The breakfasts at the hotel were wonderfully delicious and very varied and generous. Speaking of food, the restaurant has a meat restaurant that we visited one evening for a perfect meat meal. no less.
But above all, there was the staff. Everyone was smiling, ready to help in anything and everything, or rather going out of their way to help. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we were also especially pampered, but in any case this is an amazing team that gave us a great feeling and made our vacation perfect. When I return to Vienna, it is very clear to me which hotel I will choose .... Highly recommended.

Turned out to be a great choice for the location. Easy 15 minute walk through Stadtpark if you take the CAT from the airport. We were upgraded from a King Deluxe to the Premium Suite, due to my Marriott status, which was a significant upgrade and nice to have the extra room. The room was very quiet even though it did have a view of Ringstraße from one of the side streets. Motorized blackout curtains and privacy shades were a nice touch. Spacious bathroom with separate toilet closet, shower and tub, plus half bath. Bed was a bit on the form side for my taste, comfortable nonetheless. Staff was exceptional warm and welcoming. Champagne offered on arrival.

A few, very minor complaints and admittedly this is being extremely nit-picky. Light switching in the room was a little odd, there seemed to be three switches that operated the same lights in the living area. The room divider would catch and had clearly caused people to slam it into the adjacent wall causing slight damage to the wall paper. Nice wood accents throughout the room, but then a cheap white-painted cornice for the curtains? Perplexing. Check in was a little confusing as we had been upgraded to a room that said included lounge access in the app but turned out not to be the case. Booked one night with a free night award and paid for the remaining nights which were supposed to include breakfast but were told it was €35 if we wanted to add breakfast at Dstrikt. In the end, it was fine because the breakfast options were limited, looked like only 4 options, none of which sounded very appealing. There are plenty of cafes in walking distance with great breakfast. We were also given a voucher for a welcome drink and were told it was good for two, but when we went to redeem it we were told we needed one per drink. Not a big deal but a bit of a miscommunication between check-in and bar staff. Would any of this keep me from choosing to stay here again? Certainly not.

Dear ghart83181, First of all I would like to thank you very much for taking the time and effort to provide such a nice and helpful feedback to us. I am happy that you were so satisfied with multiple aspects of your stay and I will share your comments with our Ladies and Gentlemen so that they know that their efforts do not go unnoticed. Allow me to alleviate on some of the concerns that you mentioned. Being part of the Marriot Bonvoy program, but being a luxury Ritz-Carlton hotel, we have some differences in the benefits that we offer for our Elite guests. Our complimentary upgrades do not include the Club Lounge access, as the Club Lounge benefit is not part of any Elite tier benefits in our brand. However I do agree that in the Marriott Bonvoy app it looks confusing when the guest sees the Club Lounge access next to the new room type and we are working on this issue. Regarding the breakfast we unfortunately also do not offer it complimentary for our Elite members, it can only be purchased upon booking or during check-in. I would be very much interested in getting more of your insights regarding your experience. May I kindly ask you if you would be willing to share more of your opinions with me? If yes, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at judit.sipos@ritzcarlton.com. Your input would mean the key to our improvement and after all, only through such positive criticism can we ensure that our services and facilities are continuously improving. I trust that we will be able to welcome you back. With kind regards, Judit Sipos Quality Manager

I definitely do not recommend room 716. One-third of the room was not usable due to the slanted ceiling and it was comparable to a college dorm room. The room certainly did not look anything like any of the published photos. They offered to move us, but we had already unpacked and my daughter was showering. It was basically ok, but I didn't expect to be in a room that was less comfortable than a pedestrian motel.

We paid for a package that came with breakfast. I called in the morning to ask what the procedure was and was told I could eat in the restaurant or order anything from the breakfast menu for the room. The next day, I called to ask about the breakfast charges on our bill and they apologized and said they will get them removed. I called again a few days later, and was told the same thing. When I checked out, I asked about the breakfast charges again and was told that I was supposed to have eaten somewhere in the hotel (I was still unsure where). The manager came out to coldly inform me that since she could not "prove" anything, she would remove the breakfast charges - which at this point I didn't even care about. Had I known it was going to be such a public ordeal, I would not have even mentioned it.

I'm leaving this review simply due to the fact that all efforts to communicate in a constructive manner with the desk staff/management including via a $20 international phone call failed to lead to any constructive help from this staff. My wife and I stayed over the week of Christmas and our flight was delayed, to the point at which we simply could have cancelled our trip, The Ritz would have received no money from us and we could have called it a day. Instead we opted to lose a day and a half, continue our trip and stay at the Ritz. When we inquired about a refund for our missed night they were unwilling to help alleviate the problem, something I've never experienced with any other hotel chain including this one at any other location. In addition my Marriot Bonvoy gold elite status was somehow removed between booking and after we arrived as to which I was awarded no points/benefits. In both cases I was directed to the fact that this was booked through American Express, however, in every other case where either of these instances occurred (as I've had delayed flights previously and I've booked through Amex and tied my Marriot to it) I've never had this issue. At this time, I'm still working with Amex/Delta on my 1 night refund more than 30 days later, something that the Ritz could have addressed in 30 seconds. I never received points for my stay and no one was ever willing to have a discussion with me.

The rooms are well enough and the service from the waitstaff at Distrikt and the bars were very kind, but if you have even the slightest problem or any need, don't expect it to be addressed.

I found the service to be stellar! I was given a Really good upgrade, early and late check in, etc. I believe I stayed RIGHT before the merger, but it shouldn’t matter. As a lifetime Platinum Marriott member, I haven’t seen anything but good from the merged program! Enjoy your stay!
