The Hotel is located outside of vienna, but you can reach the Center by tram in 15 minutes. The neighbourhood is also nice and you can find some shops and restaurants. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The room was very big, clean and had everything you need including a Big tv. The hotel itself is small and you...

We were there with friends the first weekend in October and got adjoining rooms on the 1st floor. Anna, the owner was very gracious, helpful and patient. The hotel was undergoing extended remodeling and the outside of the building was surrounded in scaffolding which made it a challenge to find. The windows had plastic over them to keep dust out...

I travel to Vienna once a year for my job and I always stay in this hotel. Rooms are large and clean, breakfast is deliciously fresh and complete but above all the two Ladies that run this hotel are very nice and ready to help with anything you need. They make you feel at home and I think it is...

We had come to Vienna for a medical emergency as our mother travelling on a group tour got hospitalized in Vienna and we had to fly in to look after her. Not the trip you plan for. We did stay at the Hotel Schwalbe given its location being close to the hospital. You don't really expect anything when you arrive...

My Wife and I have just returned from Vienna where we stayed for three nights in Hotel Schwalbe, room 104. We are in our 70's and specified a "quiet" room. Our choice to stay here was based on reading tripadviser reviews and watching the video produced by familie Tomek. Often the experince falls short of the actual experience. On this...

10 minutes from historical downtown. Free parking in the street. Location enables you to discover another part of Vienna, outside of the touristic zone and yet to be close from it, by tramway, bus or subway. Nice and efficient welcome with advices on what to do, where to go... Room 105 was clean, full of light and when doors and...

stayed for two nights May 2012 in order to visit a realtive in the nearby hospital. Loved the place. It just had a special flair, fusing traditional and modern Viennese styles. The room was furnished simply but tastefully, very comfortable bed. It looks like they converted a turn of century or earlier appartment building so the rooms are large and...

The hotel Schwalbe is a small hotel but very cosy and it has a homely atmosphere. It is situated in a quiet part of Vienna and all the sights of the city are easily accesible by metro, the station is just a few minutes walking from the hotel. Our room was spacious and clean and we couldn't hear any other...

The hotel Schwalbe is a close to our hearts as it was here that my husband and I stayed 15 years ago, when he proposed to me! Revisiting 15 years later we were delighted to find the hotel still being run by the Tomek family and still as charming and characterful as ever. We were warmly welcomed back by Patricia,...

It's a small and sweet hotel and with a beautiful story. Family Tomek runs this hotel for 40 years!(I enjoyed listening to their history) In the beginning of my 5-day stay, I lived in a single room (65 Euro), but the heater of hot-water didn't work, then the following days, they change a big (double/triple) room for me (with the...

Staying in Ottakring

Neighbourhood Profile
The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).

“I had a rooms with shared toilets, I guess this is because of the problems getting blumbing into some rooms - (my room had lots of space for a toilet) so this is not a sign of cheapness or lack of quality”
