My brother and I visited Alkoven for three nights in summer 2015 and had a very pleasant stay. It is a short walk from Bryggen and shopping, but it was the opposite direction from the university and activity, giving a cozy, residential feel. It has a well-stocked kitchen, which enabled us to cook the fresh seafood we purchased at the...

We stayed her three nights in the Red room, it is a fabulous place with a very relaxed feel and very quiet. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and found the short walk into the city waterfront area was very pretty and easy. The sunsets just out the door were amazing. It is very clean and has everything you need.

Alkoven Guesthouse is situated directly in the city centre in a typical old (=charming) wooden house. That means it offers you a perfect starting point for your sightseeing or hiking tours. Furthermore, Elisabeth (the owner) can help you with everything - planning your stay or solving problems. I stayed at Alkoven for one month for an internship and liked the...

I stayed in Alkoven for three nights in the spring. The place was very cosy and my small room in the second floor was quiet and like a nest to go sleep in after a long day outdoors. The kitchen, bathroom and other places were clean and the whole place was well-maintained. There were two smallish grocery stores near Alkoven....

Stayed two nights in a beautiful room overlooking the sea. We had a large room that was nicely decorated. The owners are friendly and helpful. The room and property is about 5min walk from nearest bus station and 15 minutes walk from Bryggen which is a highlight in the city with colourful houses

Thank you for your review, I'm glad to read that you enjoyed staying in the Red room. The room is suitable for a small family, - with a double bed and one single bed inside makes it spacious enough for a family of 3 (or group of friends). Bus stops are easy to reach as you say, but more common...

The establishment is in a picturesque part of Bergen. This is a great budget alternative in this city, close to most sights. The landlord Elisabeth is the soul of the place: she helps always out generously with good ideas and a big heart! There are 2 bus tops with line 18 and 3-4-5-6 within just a short walk. I'd go...

Big, comfortable room with beautiful view. I actually felt that the pictures I saw in advance didn't do justice to the guesthouse, which we were really impressed with. Nice bathroom with a good shower, a kitchen with all the utensils and fridge space you need and a 10 minute approx walk from the city centre and harbour. Elisabeth was helpful...

Thank you for your nice review, so glad to hear that you where surprised in a postive way, not having pictures giving any lies... About the wifi - it seem to be working very well most days and other days not that good.

This was my second time visiting Bergen, prior to this I had stayed in a 5* hotel within the city centre. I wanted to try something new for the second trip. Alkoven was fantastic. I really felt like I got a true feel of Bergen, our room was 'the green room' me and my boyfriend. We arrived late and Elisabeth...

I stayed in Kvisten for 5 nights during an intensive university course at NHH. Ok, The room is a tad far away from the kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Ok, the room itself is quite small. But for the price of my accommodation, this was easily tolerable. Then the pros. The hostess, Elisabeth, was wonderful. She was kind, cheerful and assisting...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Reasonable prices close to the city of Bergen, only 10 minutes walk to Bryggen and Fisketorget. Alkoven - rent a room, is an accomodation for people looking for something different from hotels. In our family house, where we lives upstairs, we rent out 4 rooms during summer season and 2 through the winter. Red and Green rooms are located at groundfloor, while Kvisten and Loftet is in the back and upstairs from our private back garden. The rooms are most suitable for singles or couples, but Red room can also take one extra person. When staying in our house you get a good chance to meet and get to know other travellers as you share common areas as kitchen, bath and toilet. This is an old charming wooden house in traditional style placed in one of Bergen's old historical neighbourhoods, Skuteviken. ... more   less
