Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá boasts a range of amenities, including inviting pools and sunbeds with breathtaking sea views, though some guests suggest the bathroom facilities could be enhanced and caution against additional fees. Nestled near Palma, its location offers stunning vistas and beach access, but it's best to have a car for convenience. While the hotel exudes a quaint charm with a tranquil atmosphere, opinions on decor vary, with some finding it dated. The cleanliness is generally applauded, especially in outdoor areas, but the value is debated due to the high cost of on-site dining and services. The rooms are recognized for their spaciousness and views, yet some cite a need for updates. Service is often described as excellent, though not without occasional lapses.

We had a lovely weeks stay here in a sea view room on the 4th floor. This hotel has tremendous views, stunning grounds, a lovely pool and beach (cove) area with comfortable sunbeds and a well positioned gym with an impressive outlook and a Clarins spa (excellent massage from Roxy!). I would definitely stay here again.

It is in a great, central location, close to Palma, Portal Nous, Bendinat, Illetes Beach. We rented a car and would highly recommend doing this so you can explore the island (Valldemosa, Deia, Andratx, port Soller etc.!!) so the hotel location is in a great spot for being on the beach but also accessible to the high ways for exploring.

Hotel food is good, the options are varied. Lunch food at Bardo and Amaro is of a high standard. The room service breakfast was average - the bread for the avocado toast was not toasted… it took about an hour to come. However, all our other meals were nice.

The service at the front desk is of a very high standard. The receptionists are happy and willing to make reservations and recommend great places. This is very 5*. Carme is fantastic and an asset to the team!

The rooms are spacious and clean with fantastic balcony views albeit a little dated. We had two single beds pushed together instead of the double bed requested…. However the worst issue about the stay was the air conditioning! The room was always SO hot, unbearable at times. The air conditioning was rubbish and needs complete updating. When outside temperatures were up to 35-40 with the humidity it is not acceptable to keep the rooms so hot!! Same goes for the gym, after 2 sessions inside, I chose not to go back because the lack of cooling air conditioning whilst running was also unbearable!

Finally, a main point of concern is the lack of pool and beach staff!! We found ourselves constantly having to go up to the bar to order drinks- there should be more than 1 pool waiter for the amount of guests. Wait times for drinks by the pool is VERY SLOW. The pool staff are lovely but at least double the amount of staff is required. You also cannot eat on your sun lounger and have to sit at the restaurant. It would be nice to be able to have some nibbles and ice cream, at least, as you tan. To sit at Amaro you must be covered up which is a little inconvenient when coming from the pool. Bardo staff also seemed very few, at peak lunch periods, tables were left un-sanitised and messy as there was not enough staff to take orders, serve and reset tables.

I loved the weekly schedule with an outdoor cinema (a highlight!!), lots of live music and yoga. It was a real treat and added something special to our stay.

Considering the cost of the stay, it would be nice to have parking included in the rate of the room. €25 a night is uncalled for.

Taking all of this into consideration. I still look forward to returning again in the near future!

We were on the Red level (#604) and had brilliant view across the bay to Palma. The room was kept spotless by housekeeping and was very well equipped with a fridge and hot drink facilities. Staff were exceptional - nothing was too much trouble - better still they were totally intuitive as to your needs, so the reality was you didn't actually need to ask for very much!
The manager (Lucia) was always to be seen engaging with guests and ensuring they were content and having a good stay.
This is a modern hotel targeting a 5 star market. It wasn't stuffy or overly formal at all, and an exceptional quality experience for guests is clearly at the heart of their philosophy.

Faultless - we'll be back!

We came here for relaxation and our anniversary and was blown away by the property and the customer service. All was outstanding. If you are not on the Red Level, add it. For a minimal cost, you can eat and drink all day and could even bring drinks to your room to relax. Great addition to our trip along with the customer service being some of the best that we have ever had!

I was there in September. The hotel is quite expensive (we paid about 600 euros per night) The location of the hotel is great just as the pool and terrace area. Lots of choice for breakfast as well.
Yet, I had room 414 and the AC is not working at all, I could barely sleep.
Regarding service some of the staff are fantastic and some are well below a 5 star service. I had to wait 8 hours to get my room clean and we had asked for a double bed and we had twin bed. We asked to book Jetski and we had to wait for 5 hours to get a proposal that was 50 euros more expensive than another company we found by ourselves.
To my mind this hotel is more like a good 4 star

Dear VacationLover2021, We are grateful for your recent visit to Hotel de Mar, Gran Meliá and for time taken to share your feedback, although it is a shame to receive it only after departing. While glad about your appreciation of our stunning location and facilities, we do regret to know that service provided was not up to your expectations. We are surprised about the comments related to the staff professionalism since we consider it our greatest asset which all of our guests as so fond of, praising attentive care and daily efforts to convert each journey into exceptional experiences. Our strength is the guest relations activity we daily dedicate to the guests in order to create personal connections and follow up each stay providing support when needed. In reference to the air conditioning, although we have not had any issue during the whole season, we investigated about your room, realizing that we do not have any track of it. However, we double-checked the room without detecting any anomaly. Likewise as to the room cleaning, I trust you accept that it is not reflective of our normal standards of service, neither what you relate about the concierge service. Nevertheless, it might happen to wait for answers from external providers. Finally, we are disappointed to have let you down and even though each comment represents an improvement tool for us, we would have appreciated to have a direct contact with you while at the hotel in order to promptly intervene and try to give you a different perspective of our services. We wish you could give us a further chance to gain back your trust if you decide to come back to Majorca. Kindest regards, Maria Ansalone Guest Experience Manager

It was our 2nd (and last) stay in this hotel, which claims to belong to the leading hotels of the world. Location is really nice, I would agree, 5 stars, however there are many points that don't qualify the Melia de Mar for this category. These are: too little space in the breakfast area outside, during our 7 day stay we always had to wait to get a table in the shade (15 min and more). The hotel is understaffed, the waiters are extremely stressed, Pool service is almost not existing, several wines on the bar menu were stocked out. Loungers in the garden and the Pool area not enough, if people would not get up at 7.00 am (latest) and reserve the loungers you don't get one anymore. Alternatively the hotel offers you to book (for money) the daybeds in the garden and at the Pool area. This is a joke for a so called 5 star hotel. A 5 star hotel has to provide for sufficient loungers for all the guests, not matter what. The staff at the reception (one employee in particular) was unfriendly and stressed. When we kindly asked for the daily complimentary water at the rooms which was several times not provided we've got the answer: there is water in the minibar (at cost). The list goes on. The rooms do not qualify for a 5 star hotel, they have been updated, however, doors, floor, wardrobes etc are still from the early days. In summary, if Melia does not invest in service, infrastructure, maintenance and more and better trained staff, they will seriously run into problems. We do not recommend booking the hotel. We booked two double rooms (at single occupancy) and payed the full double room price at the webpage. There is much better at the island (also in the area) at this high price. Suggest you invest your money where people are really appreciating your business.

Dear F5678NEchristinek, firstly, we wish to thank you for choosing the Hotel de Mar, Gran Meliá at the occasion of your recent visits to Majorca. While very glad to realize your appreciation of our property's location, we do regret to learn of the concerns you raised. Please, note running a high occupancy, the waiting time in the breakfast area is mostly due to the restrictions as to the capacity of each space, not allowing us to arrange as many tables as before to respect the social distance. However, the outdoor breakfast area is big enough to accomodate all our guests, and if it is busy during some spcific moments, we do offer the breakfast internal spaces too, in case our guests are not willing to wait for tables available outside. In reference to the pool area and the sun beds availability, please note that it is not possible to reserve them and the amount of sunbeds displayed in the resort is also related to the restrictions we do have to respect as per sanitary protocols. Again, let me clarify that the size of the outdoor areas always allows our guests to enjoy the facilities. The Bali Beds you refer to, are not available for all the guests, but upon reservation and they are mainly booked through our suites rooms categories. Finally, we are regrettably surprised about the comments related to our personnel attitude, since we do consider the whole staff as our greatest asset, daily working to guarantee our guests to live enjoyable experiences. We truly hope you trust that the raised concerns are not reflective of the high level of standards we strive to daily offer and do sincerely hope that you will decide to have a further occasion to visit us again and fully enjoy our services. Please, do not esitate to contact me in order to personally arrange all the details of your next booking. Kindest regards, Maria Ansalone Guest Experience Manager

Great hotel, Fantastic service and great location. The breakfast was really good and the outdoor cinema was a great final touch on a already great trip.

Only negative feedback was the lunch at the pool restaurant was a bit expensive and could have been a bit better in my opinion.

The food at Arells restaurant was also an fantastic experience.

Our review goes against the grain of many other reviews of this hotel. It has been on my bucket list for a long time now and so my husband agreed to go here. What can I say … except its the location, staff and cleanliness that sell this hotel. We noticed many areas have been modernised but you could see in our room a need for upgrading … this is an old hotel. Now that doesn’t necessarily put us off revisiting … no … our main problem was the food. I have read many reviews on trip advisor praising the food and to be honest we cannot reiterate this. My husband and I are not foodies but we do appreciate well presented well cooked food… and we could not in any stretch of the imagination describe the food at this hotel in that way. I have read rave reviews about the breakfast but in all honesty we have had better in a 4* hotel. We have visited many 5* star hotels in Europe some with Michelin starred restaurants and one special one in Bangkok therefore we have experience of top class hotels a few of which are part of the leading hotels in the world and their food was outstanding… sorry Melia but for the money you charge the food experience is sadly lacking. I was served a piece of tenderloin in a 7 course tasting menu and it was nearly all gristle.. it should never have left the kitchen .. there was an apology from the chef but not face to face. This may seem a long rambling review but my husband and myself are in our seventies and when you pay an expensive price for accommodation you expect something special. I could name a hotel in Port Adriano that totally fits the bill food wise.
The staff are lovely here at the Melia .. some of the best we ever encountered.. so friendly and helpful .. and the views are brilliant.
A choice of restaurants would be better … different experiences .. come on Melia … man up.

Dear user, Thank you for your review and for taking the time to provide us with this valuable feedback. We are sorry to hear that you had an inconvenience with our food. As you can hopefully see from our other reviews, this situation is the exception and far from our usual high standards. We work hard to provide an excellent service including our breakfast facing the amazing Mediterranean sea. And we are proud of our gastronomic concept Arrels by Marga Coll that is a reference of local cuisine in Mallorca and it has a well-known reputation in the island. For this reason, we believe this issue was an isolated incident. We would like to invite you again at our hotel and ensure that we take all the necessary steps at providing you with the 5-star experience we are known for. Kindest regards, Maria Ansalone Guest Experience Manager

The location and outdoor areas are what makes this hotel. Lovely views across the bay, great sunbeds and bali beds plus a little cove area for swimming, giving it quite a sophisticated feel.

Service is generally very good, albeit the food including breakfast is just ok and drinks and food are quite expensive, 10 Euro for a pint of lager and 17 Euro for a cocktail, with a hamburger and fries at 26 Euro.

We had a red level room on the 6th floor. Room sizes are quite good, however they are a little dated and the furnishings are generally a bit 1970's.

Whilst its not that far from Palma we did experience that taxi prices can be quite varaible. We had one journey at 14 Euros and another at 25 Euro and then a further one at 19! Waits for a taxi can be quite long and given the arrangements over there its a bit hit and miss trying to flag one down in the street. The bus system is very efficient though.

All in all an enjoyable stay and I probably would return, but I think Melia could do with giving this place a bit of a facelift.

Really enjoyed our week here. From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Our suite was so comfortable with a massive bathroom with a real wow factor.
Great views out to sea from our two balconies.
There are plenty of sunloungers and umbrellas in different areas of the grounds. You can choose whether to be away from everyone out on the promontory, sit around one of the pools or on the lawns on Balinese beds around the tranquil horizon pool.
There are bathing ladders down into the sea if sea swimming is your thing.
We were disappointed with the dinner menu. After three nights trying it it became boring. Nothing changes except the fish of the day which alternâtes between salmon or turbot. There are many good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel.
I also tried the Clarins spa which was wonderful.
Would we return? Yes definitely for a short break. The airport is a short hop and it’s a very relaxing hotel.

Spent a week at this hotel. The hotel was fantastic. We booked a Junior Suite & were delighted with it. The bedroom & lounge were spacious & well equipped. Because we had booked a suite, the hotel organised, free of charge, a chauffeur driven mercedes limosine from & to the airport. This was great. We were met in the baggage collection area of the airport. The driver was waiting at our carousel with our name clearly displayed. Excellent service.

We were B&B only & the breakfast was one of the best. 10 out of 10 all round.

Because we were Red Level we had access to the Red Level loung all day with free wine & champagne & light bites from 12 till 6pm. From 6 to 7:30pm we also got free spirits etc along with finger food.

The best bit about the hotel was the staff. They were absolutely fantastic. They made our holiday & we can see why some of the guests we had met, had been there several times. Apologies if I miss anyone, but a special mention to Natalia. Maria, Marina, Aisha, Jazz, Nawal & Alexandra. Like to mention one of the girls in the Red Level lounge (forgot name) who was determined to beat me at cards. She was lovely. Special mention to Alexandra who was so caring regarding our story about our grandson. We had a special bond with her & just loved seeing the pictures of her beautiful son.

Thanks again Melia Mar. Like many others, we will be back.
