I am a Travel Consultant by Profession and travel a lot to facilities provided by hotels to my clients, but my personal experience for Flamingo by the Beach Penang is a nightmare, I reached hotel at 10:30 in the morning on 03 Jun 2023, they told me that check-in time is 03 pm, and asked me to sit in lobby for next 5 hours, receptionist said rooms are not available and as soon they get any availability they will give me room While sitting in front of the reception I noticed that there were some guest who walked-in and got the room instantly I went to reception and asked them the reason that why I am not getting room and the people who just walked in, received the room key cards. The person asked me that if I need room before 3 pm, I must pay early check-in charges normally I never saw such behavior from any hotel management mostly hotel provide early check-in if rooms are available to me it shows that hotel doesn't value their guest's comfort or time I will never stay here again and will never recommend to my friends or clients…

Biggest disappointment. Second time in Penang and tried a different hotel. No drinking or smoking by the pool even though it is clearly advertised on the web. Couldn’t even Order drinks unless it was beer or wine. No fun allowed pool side. Rooms were in need of a lot of maintenance.

My husband and I stayed here for five days (over the long Hari Raya weekend) very, very recently. The hotel is good-ish, we had a spacious room with a BIG balcony overlooking the sea. Location-wise — it is way better than staying at Batu Ferringhi (where we usually stay). We are satisfied, however, there were a number of things that need to be looked at. Breakfast was alright, typical hotel breakfast. But the a la carte menu has limited options in it (char kuey teow is very good nevertheless!). Not a lot of drinks option — only beer and wine. We asked one of the F&B staff if the hotel serves Gin & Tonic but he unfortunately doesn’t know what a Gin is. The hotel has a lovely, lovely pool bar (not open, but still would be nice to be informed - a normal practice at other hotels I've been to). The restaurant ran out of beer one day, and we got told off for bringing our own. We paid an RM150 corkage charge - reasonable if you're in a huge group and drinking loads of booze. But if you're only drinking a couple of beers and a bottle of wine -- totally not worth it. The great thing is: there's a great beach bar (probably part of the hotel next door) that serves yummy foods and wonderful drinks just a few steps away. On top of that, they give amazing service as well (look for the staff call Rafael). We had a very spacious corner room. We're under the impression it hasn't been occupied for a while (we get it -- Covid screwed a lot of things over) because we've had to leave the shower running for at least 10 mins due to rusty water flow. The pillows were too soft (but hey, no complaints) and the bed was comfortable. Housekeeping came to clean the room daily, however, all they did was make the bed and replenish coffee/tea -- they did not properly sweep the floor or get rid of the rubbish. The pool was nice (even the deepest end isn't very deep so suitable for families with small kids). However, there were a few exposed wires sticking out of the pool which was a concern to us. The management should do something about this instead of leaving it as is. In general, we're semi-happy with our stay (value for money). But one thing that really pissed me off -- the lack of accountability from their end. So I accidentally left my phone charger in the room and as soon as I remember, I contacted a friend who is still in the hotel to help me inform reception/housekeeping. They told her they found my charger and will return it. In a span of 24 hours, she contacted me and said "The hotel has given my charger to someone else and they are very apologetic about it" -- I called the number on their website at least 10 times with the hope I'd get to talk to someone, however, all my calls went unanswered (of course!). When I finally managed to get through, I was rerouted to Housekeeping. The staff who picked up the phone (evening shift today on 26 April 2023) said she can't do anything because she was not the one handling my case. My questions/concerns went unanswered (she kept saying they can't compensate me or do anything because it has been claimed) and at the end of the conversation, she sarcastically asked me if I want someone to contact me or if I just want to leave a bad review. Before I could even respond with my phone number, she hung up on me and again, nobody answered after that. I'm not sure if someone will respond to this review or will at least give me a callback (I am pretty sure my husband's no is on the record) and explain why they've given my charger to someone else (apparently they showed my friend a Lost & Found sheet with someone else's signature collecting my charger). But I'm really very disappointed -- don't think we'd be coming back anymore.…

Stayed here for 5 nights recently, commencing around Ramadan. If you can avoid this time in future years, please do so as it sees some stage trading hours / days from the local shops. Overall, not a bad place to stay as long as you don't expect too much. Good - Great views from rooms - Huge rooms with balcony and comfortable beds and air con that worked well - Housekeeping is very efficient with daily service completed by lunch time. - Convenient location close to Rapid Bus stops and close to good eating places - Pool is great for most times of the day - especially after lunch when it is just about deserted. - Common areas look great Bad - Check in painful - We tried 3 rooms until we found one where most things worked - took over 2 hours to resolve. - In the end the room's hairdryer didn't work and the sliding door to the balcony was just about impossible to move. - 2 bars and coffee machine look like they haven't been used for about 5 years. Would have ranked it higher had it not been for dodgy check in. Would we stay here again - yes, particularly if they spent some additional maintenance money on the rooms.…

Seaview balconies offer a wonderfull view over the bay and high-rises specially in the dark. This was the fourth time I stayed in residential Tanjung Bungah, close enough for livelier Gurney area and far better than declining Batu Ferringhi. The pool is big enough to swim properly if the Family Day crowds don't invade it. Breakfast includes fresh fruits and all kinds of hot local foods and can be enjoyed on the terrace or garden too. The beach in front is public area as elsewhere on Penang, the water is not suitable for swimming due to muddiness and jellyfish.

Good experience at the hotel. Mine was a group of 5 people including 1 small kid and we booked 2 rooms. They allotted us a connecting room without my request. It was much easier to navigate to both the rooms compared to 2 separate rooms. Rooms were Big and comfy although not much luxury either in the room or the hotel lobby, but for a 4 star hotel, it was enough. Breakfast may be OK for non vegetarians but as we all are vegan, we could not find anything other than bread butter, a few types of juice etc. So a few more vegan options are more welcome. Breakfast was server beside the pool which was just next to the beach. so it was quite happening to have your breakfast while having a look at the beach and pool. Overall good experience except one, that is when we had to check out it was around 6:50AM and when I asked for a bell boy to get our luggage from the room, the receptionist said the bell boy timing is from 7AM in the morning. So we had to wait a while if we want to use bell boy service. So we had to get our luggage by ourself. Not a big deal but as heir timing was about to start they should have arrange a bell boy to do the job. One more thing what I noticed that is, the hotel is quite popular in local malaysians. When we were there, it was time of Malaysian school holidays and the hotel was quite jam packed with the Malay tourists. It means hotel has old and good reputation comared to other hotels in same class. overall it was good stay, except the location. It was a bit far away from the main market area, but if you have to stay on the beach. Its a really good option…

Dreadful hotel of 4 stars, should be 2 stars. Room smelled of mildew and damp rot, nothing worked, staff over run by tour bus guests and the breakfast was a miserable buffet that made me sick on the second day. The beach is ok but the sea is dirty and jellyfish warning signs everywhere and the pool is overwhelmed with scores of kids and their mothers fully clothed and screaming. There are 2 bars, both closed and one nasty restaurant serving Mc Donalds type food and 5* prices. Stay here at your own risk, for me, a very disappointing and awful experience, Could not wait to leave.

The room we stayed in on the fifteenth floor was a lot bigger then the first room that we were allocated. The hotel is very busy with locals at the weekend and school holidays, they normally stay for one or two night so the hotel don’t bother when things are broken in the rooms, so when we arrived for 3 weeks it took 3 days of getting the dripping noise sorted (someone had left a hose pipe on, )a plug for the sink and a shower that worked. At weekends the water was a lot colder than during the week. The traffic could be heard in our room so it must be very loud on what they call hill view rooms, main road would be more truthful. At the hotel next door it’s called the rainbow paradise it has a beach bar and the music can be heard at the flamingo. Be aware there is now a 13 ringgit tax per night for non local tourists. Breakfast in the hotel wasn’t good. I would advise going for room only and going to the morning market 5 minuets walk away.…

Had an unpleasant trip. 1. Allocated wrong room 2. Old hotel with zero maintenance. Don't be fooled with the exterior looks. 3. Dirty washroom and rubbish bin 4. Broken shower, complained to receptionist but no action been taken. 5. Torn bedsheet 6. Dusty furniture 7. Informed about painting works via memo in the room, there is no prior notice in the website. The management asked us to close the balcony and curtain for privacy purpose. Then why there is an option for sea view or hill views when you cant enjoy the view. 8. Breakfast total waste of money, less choices and repeating menu.

We've just spent a month at this hotel and have to say it was the best holiday we've had there. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the rooms were kept clean. As soon as you arrive at this hotel you are welcomed by the friendly bellboys who are always on hand to help or assist. Reception staff were always friendly and helpful. In the restaurant there is a varied breakfast menu catering for visitors from different parts of the world. Again, we found all of the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently being redecorated and updated but caused no inconvenience to us.
