Mercure Penang Beach hotel is often commended for its private beach and amenities like the gym and pool, with guests enjoying the sweeping ocean views from clean, spacious rooms. However, some guests have called out issues with limited parking, water inconsistencies, and noise disturbances.
While the service receives mixed reviews, highlighting friendly staff but sometimes slow responses, there is notable dissatisfaction with the hotel's value, as expectations are not always met in terms of service and amenities. Despite this, the hotel's location remains popular for its beach proximity, though access to the city can be challenging for some.

Detailed Reviews
We visited the Mercure Penang during from December to January 2020 across the Christmas break for a family reunion. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location was great to get to all parts of penang and the view and beach were a great setting for our get together. Unfortunately, we were unable to swim in the sea due to jellyfish. The facilities at the hotel were good, and there is a basic gym on site that is accessible 24hours. But the staff really made our stay. They were attentive, kind and helpful despite being under staffed during the festive season. Muraly and Sarveen were the biggest stars for our stay. Muraly consistently went above and beyond his duties to ensure we were taken care of, asking if there was anything we needed and had an excellent knowledge of the local area.
Sarveen was also a top worked and has been excellent throughout out stay and always more than happy to help if needed.
Housekeeping were always polite and attentive when passing in the halls and although understaffed ensured that our room was cleaned and fully stocked throughout our stay.
Overall really enjoyed our stay at the Mercure thanks to the staff here.

I have stayed here for 10 days. The hotel has one employee who made me feel very special and welcome and that is Muraly. Since the minute I have asked him for help by the pool (on the first day of my stay) he made sure I was taken care of with anything and everything I needed. If it wasn’t for him I am not sure how I would have coped.
The hotel itself is not true to the usual Mercure standard you would get in other countries. It is run down, in need of renovation, a better upkeep of the rooms and communal areas and better customer service focus with English speaking staff. It is a shame to have to say this, but there are so many small improvements the hotel could benefit from as it has a nice sea front location.
On the positive side though, Muraly made all the difference to my stay on a daily basis. He helped ensure there is a dedicated bean bag reserved on the beach every day (which was essential as there are only a few for all guests to share). If I didn’t have clean towels in the room (which happened on about 3-4 occasions in 10 days) he would bring them to the room straight away. If I needed water while working out in the gym he would run to get the new water bottle for the water cooler. If I needed a drink he helped to order it and have it delivered from the restaurant to the beach. If I needed help or advice in general about the local are, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Overall he is the one staff member that truly cares, makes an effort with the guests and helps all guests feel welcome and happy while staying here. Muraly truly knows and understands what customer service is about and I wish he would be recognised for his dedication and commitment and would be given the opportunity to be a member of senior management to help improve the general experience at the Mercure Penang beach as the hotel has so much to offer, just need Muraly ;-)

Mercure Penang is ideal hotel fpor those seeking beach right in front of Hotel and other than it, there is hardly anything else which would woove you to this hotel for stay.
Best things of the hotel are as below,
1. Good location right on the Beach
2. Very limited Public visiting the beach during evening & night hours.
3. I availed Junior Suite Room for Family of Four (2A+ 2 c) and it was ideal and comfortable.
4. Walking distance from Hotel next door is shop to grab small snacks & drinks.
5. Five minutes walk from Hotel is Tesco - large Super market Store with all daily essentials.
6. Hotel Location ideal between George Town & Battu Ferringhi.
7. Bang opposite to Hotel, road leads to budget Chinese & Indian restaurants at walking distance.
Not ideal from Hotel which leads to Poor service are as below,
1. Small Check in Counters (only 2) and takes long time.
2. I checked in by 5pm but until 0830pm i didnt get basic Towels in my Room due to shortage and I had to walk down at 8pm & convey my feelings to Duty Manager to get towels.
3. Communication is big problem in the hotel as they take message promptly but forget to facilitate the service or pass info to next person in duty, hence u end up calling front office / Room service / House keeping many times to get your work done.
I recommend Mercure Penang for short stay of 1 - 2 nights and ideal for Couples & Family.
I stayed between 22 - 25 Dec and and this hotel is ideal distance wise to visit Geroge Town & Battu Ferringhi as its situated between them.
Airport transfers took around 40 minutes depending on traffic and Roads. All Malls are Good for Shopping & Food activites.
Please do keep in mind across Penang most of the shops including Malls & Food courts prefer only Cash for payments and credit / Debit card is only accepted in high end shops.
Hence please plan your cash expenses accordingly.

Dear Mr Safin, Warmest Greetings from Mercure Penang Beach. Thank you for taking the time to write feedback regarding your recent visit to our property. It is our goal to offer excellent service and memorable experiences. Therefore, it is very disappointing to learn that your recent experience in our hotel was not up to your expectation. Please accept my most profound apologies for the inconveniences especially the slow check-in process encountered and towel shortage in the room. I understand that is too late to make up for any discomfort caused and truly regret as it is certainly unacceptable to us. I hope that you will regard this experience as an isolated case rather than the norm, and not the usual high standard that we strive to achieve every day. Further to your feedback, we are glad that you find our hotel’s location is ideal and room you stayed were comfortable. Our hotel is indeed a top choice for holiday-goers as its location being between Batu Feringghi and George Town where our guest can certainly enjoy the best of Penang! Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. It will certainly direct us in our pursuit to achieve greater guest satisfaction through constant monitoring and re-evaluating of our standards in terms of service. Meanwhile, all of us here sincerely look forward to another opportunity to restore your confidence with Mercure Penang Beach. Take care. Yours truly, Dennis Dillon Front Office Manager

This is an old hotel that has had a bit of a refurb. Tha staff are some of the most knowledgable and attentive ive seen for a long time. Everything works and is very clean, including the pool. It’s a shame they let people take the pool loungers out of the hotel and onto the public beach, leaving only a few. The breakfast has a good range and the hot food is actually hot, unlike many hotels in any category. There is a good bus service a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Property is slightly further from Georgetown. Pros: Walking distance to the beach. Beach area is maintained so you will not be seeing garbage lying around as compared to public beaches. However, this property does not provide sun lounge so you will need to find seating/shady area yourself. Pool is rather small, especially children's pool. Nothing fantastic. If the property can add a slide/revamp the pool area, this will definitely be a great plus. Room is ok with strong water pressure. Staffs are not entirely friendly, especially the concierge area. If you asked for late check-out, they will almost immediately tell you it's impossible without checking their system or research if you are silver/gold/platinum ALL member. I stayed in their Executive Suite, and a platinum ALL member - without a blink of eye and without checking, I was told no late check out request will be entertained. It was not until I alerted them that I stayed in Executive Suite (not their superior/deluxe room) and that I am a platinum member - that they reluctantly allowed for additional 30min late checkout. Yup, only 30min.. Bar is closed so quite disappointing to know that guests are not able to enjoy this facility. Note that their gym room do NOT provide towels, and it wasn't highlighted anywhere so you'd end up using the gym, all sweaty without anything to wipe yourself down. No towels provided even after I called up the concierge but instead was asked to use the towels in my own room.

If you thinking of having a good family holiday at this hotel, please think twice. It is the worst ever hotel I never stay in before with Accors hotel group. The room is not ready even I arrived at 3:45pm at the hotel and the room only available after 4pm, the second room only ready after 5pm, I thought the check in time is at 3pm? During the stay, my room cards were not function after I was back from a day trip in Penang on my second day stay about 6pm, I need to ask the housekeeper to open the room for my exhausted kids and I need to go to reception to change the keycards. When enter the rooms, only one of the rooms were cleaned and I need to go to reception to ask them to clean my other room, when complained to reception about this, they told me they were not enough staff, I was so disappointed, they not even said sorry for it just came out with all the excuses. I don’t think this should be the answer from and hospitality business and if they are not ready to be one, please leave. There also not enough parking for this hotel, they prioritize the function guest and reserved the parking fir them, they not care for the in house paid guest. I was asked to park my car at the next door building and pay for the parking myself. I think the hotel need to overhaul if they still want to be in the hospitality business.

To start on a positive note I would say the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is in need of a thorough clean in many areas, particularly the pool. Apart from an acute lack of sun loungers and cushions the whole area would benefit from a jet wash. Even the small number of loungers that had cushions , the cushions were extremely dirty. The outside lounge area the tables were always dirty and your drinks were place on to them. Never once did I see anyone clean. The chairs , again, no cushions and as a result uncomfortable to sit on.
As regards the rooms , they are large and sparsely furnished, generally grubby and towels on one occasion were dirty. The laminate floor covering was lifting in so many places and again gave the overall impression of unkept. These issues from my many year’s of staying in hotels throughout the world are symptomatic of poor management. A simple inspection on a daily basis would surely highlight the need to improve the areas I mentioned. Lift access is controlled by your room key, unfortunately it takes several attempts for the card to be recognised at which stage you have missed your floor, access to the room and power switch has the same “hit and miss” problem.

Located right on the beach with only a 12 minutes car ride into town. The perfect place to enjoy a seaside holiday without being too far from town or breaking the bank.
I had a king bed room facing the sea. The room was clean, almost-new. Housekeeping was immaculate. The restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. I ended up having dinner inhouse for most of my few nights' stay. Friendly staff.
The pool is great and under shade most of the time. There is a 24-hour gym with a view of the sea. You can walk to a bar along the beach a few buildings along. The beach is clean and safe. There were no vendors. It felt like a private beach. There's a convenience store under the tower next door. There is reportedly a bus stop for the free city CAT within a few minutes' walk.
The Chinese New Year music was overly loud and insipid, but I could not hear it inside my room. There were some restaurants nearby but I only tried one (Lao Hakka in side the swimming club) and it was more expensive than the hotel and disappointing.
Great value for money. I booked as a package with flights on AirAsiaGo. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

+1
The ocean view is very beautiful even if its quite dangerous to swim at the beach because there is jellyfish. the view is pretty. The check in process with Front Office staff name Ida was very smooth and she was very friendly.
The cleanliness of the rooms (we booked 4 rooms for 3 nights and additional 1 more room for 1 night stay), the quality of the room make up service, maintenance service and the food during breakfast.
On the day of check-in, when i enter my room, i was amazed by the view. When i try to turn on the TV, i found out the TV is not working (actually it might be our problem because we didn't use the correct button on the remote control) and called maintenance. They didn't come to rectify the problem until the next day. That is just after i place a report at the front desk again. There are a bunch of hairs clogged at the bathroom shower drainage. In my sister's room, there are garbage in the tissue box slot in the bathroom, the floor is sticky. There are spots of beach sands at the hallway that stays there for 3 days we stayed there. Towels in my sisters room has black stains on them. and the best part, towels in my parents room are torn.
On the second day, we request for room make up service, the housekeeping did come and clean my room but they DID NOT clear the garbage in the bathroom dustbin. First day of breakfast, i understand that you have high occupancy and you wants to maintain SOP for the buffet. But we have to queue for almost 30 mins to get a table. You have space on the patio, why don't you extend your buffet and add more tables over there? The food on the first day of breakfast, the sambal is too sour, the chicken rendang taste burned, the vegetables are soggy and the buffet line is very messy.
On the third day, housekeeping come to make up the room and change the towels, the towels are smelly.
Overall, my stay there was very disappointing.

The Mercure Penang Beach is a beach side hotel that delivers all the expectations of a beach front hotel. Easy access, open breezeway lobby, sea front bar and restaurant, easy access to the beach and ocean view rooms that have panoramic views of the sea.
Rooms were well appointed and comfortable but bathrooms could do with a make over and power sockets could be modernised to include USB ports at the desk and bedside tables.
Post COVID recovery saw some services with restaurant offerings for dinner and lunch being limited on some days but what was on offer was excellent. There are numerous local eating houses within very easy walk to enjoy the local fare.
All the reception and restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating, however the Concierge was a little lack lustre on energy to assist and preferred to stand in the corner and avoid customer contact unless approached.
Overall it is a lovely place to stay and kick up the feet for a few days whether you are local or international traveller. This was our last hotel stay of 5 while in Malaysia and didn't disappoint in this very uncertain world we live in at present, well done Mercure Penang Beach and thanks for the hospitality.

There is a ramp, but the pool is not a lap pool, more of a relaxing pool
there are two queen size beds but it will be very cramped in the room. You might need to declare to the hotel the numbers in the room too

Thankyou
They have an adequate gym. Typical hotel one. Smallish with usual few pieces of equipment including treadmill. Alternatively, there is a nice long stretch of beach to run.
