Bodysgallen Hall & Spa
About
Standing in over 200 acres of its own parkland to the south of Llandudno with spectacular views of Snowdonia and Conwy Castle. Believed to have 13th century origins, Bodysgallen Hall provides all that is best in country house hospitality. Beautiful gardens include a rare 17th century parterre of box hedges filled with sweet-scented herbs, a rockery with a cascade, a walled rose garden, and several follies. Historic House Hotels Ltd bought and rescued the house from a dilapidated state in 1981 and restored the 17th century house and gardens. In September 2008 Historic House Hotels Ltd and its interest in all its properties were given to the National Trust to ensure their long-term protection, with all profits benefiting the houses and the charity. The 15 extremely comfortable bedrooms in the Main Hall offer several different room types, including the four elegant principal suites. Each bedroom is individually decorated and furnished with antique furniture, paintings and prints, enjoying glorious views of Bodysgallen's parkland or gardens, with some rooms having further reaching views of Conwy Castle or the distant Mountains of Snowdonia. There are 16 cottage suites with picturesque names like The Smithy, Box Cottage and Pineapple Lodge, are situated in the grounds, and provide accommodation for guests preferring a greater degree of privacy. Many cottages enjoy their own private gardens and some are in close proximity to the Bodysgallen Spa. All are charming and delightful.
The Dining Room in the main hall has been awarded three rosettes for fine dining by the AA - the only restaurant in Llandudno to be awarded such - and offers imaginative meals prepared from fresh local produce and complemented by fine wine, and overlooks the gardens and has been recognised as one of the best places for Sunday Lunch in the United Kingdom by The Observer newspaper. The Spa is approached by a short walk through the garden or by a private road. Converted from an original stone built farm it contains a magnificent 50' swimming pool edged with comfortable reclining chairs, whirlpool spa bath, steam room and sauna. A superb gymnasium has all the latest technologically advanced equipment, suitable for all ranges of fitness. A comfortable Club Room is a place where guests and members can relax and enjoy drinks and light meals, which in the summer are also served on the terrace. Residential guests have full use of the Bodysgallen Spa.Bodysgallen Hall is situated about 2 miles south from Llandudno and the North Wales coast. It is surrounded by over 200 acres of beautiful gardens and wooded parkland. Bodysgallen Hall has magnificent views of Snowdonia, and Conwy Castle. It's the perfect setting for a relaxed holiday at all times of the year. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting the many historic castles and stately homes in North Wales as well as the famous golf courses that adorn the coastline.

Our only disappointment during our stay was our experience in the spa, we used this before dinner every evening as a way of relaxing after a day out exploring and walking in beautiful north wales. Unfortunately the spa is not exclusive to hotel residents, with paid membership subscription offered to the local community. This meant at times it felt more like a municipal pool, with serious swimmers diving, tumble turning, and repeatedly pounding lengths which restricted pool space and increased poolside noise level for hotel residents. Not quite the spa experience we were hoping for, but perhaps with a little thought the hotel could find a compromise that would please all users. A bonus to our stay was beautiful sunshine all week and complimentary NT tickets to Bodnant gardens provided by hotel reception.
Quiet, isolated location, so if you don't eat in the expensive 'fine dining' restaurant (where we thought that the food options were uninspiring) you need to drive to eat out.
We stayed in 2 cottages which were very tired and poor value - each at £330 per night B&B.
Dark rooms with scruffy furniture (more shabby than chic).
Ancient settee had no support and needed to sit on cushions.
Tired old chair.
Cluttered bedrooms, again with scruffy furniture.
Although there were good sized kitchens the only equipment was a kettle and fridge. Strange there wasn't a cooker or even a microwave. No cutlery other than tea spoons and the only crockery were mugs.
Wifi didn't work at all in either of our rooms during our 3 day visit and also no mobile signal. Wifi was better in the main building.
Erratic shower.
Many of the plugs were on old type small round sockets.
Small enclosed garden area.
Friendly staff.
The cottage accommodation is more rural village which would be ok at £600 per week but not at £2,000+ per week.
2 electric charging points.
creative dinner menu Thank you
Room quality was excellent, remember it is a Grade 1 Listed Building after all! Spa facilities are excellent and whilst there also private members attached to the facility it was never busy.
The hotel never felt too busy given there are only 16 rooms, with a number of cottages in the grounds that looked very nice too and we will certainly take a look at these for future stays.
Recommend the walk through the grounds and up to the Obelisk on the hill for some great views, take some time to enjoy Conwy and visit the Castle and walk the walls
(but beware angry/hungry seagulls so keep your food / ice cream hidden at all times!).
Food served was delicious and service excellent at dinner and at breakfast.
We will definitely return, as many of the guests staying when we did were returning customers.
Every staff member encountered was polite, friendly & made us feel welcome.
Encluded in the half spa day we had access to the pool, jacuzzi, steam & sauna room for 2 hours before our treatment. Everything was explained to us clearly & we were shown where all the facilities were.
Showers in the changing rooms were lovely & hot with free shower gel, shampoo/conditioner to use. There is also hair dryers & straighteners provided.
The full body massage was amazing! We were then able to relax with tea/coffee in the relaxation room afterwards.
Overall a really lovely visit. We will be back.
The restaurant setting felt soulless both in the evening and at breakfast. The evening menu was hugely overpriced for what was offered. There were 3 of us and 2 of us felt that our portions were meagre. 2 of our main meals were served barely warm. Possibly as we had meat and that was left to ‘rest’ whilst the fish of the 3rd meal was cooked.
With one exception all the staff were extremely courteous and polite. I am sure this is how they are trained so cannot fault their efforts but it felt over the top. Constantly being called Ma’am does not make for a relaxing experience!
One of our party had an allergy, we were asked about allergies and it was noted down before our menu choices were taken. Nevertheless the allergy was not taken into account with 2 items we were served.
On a positive note our experience of the spa was great. All 3 of us had treatments and the staff were so welcoming and friendly and most importantly wonderfully adaptable to the particular needs of our group.
This is an expensive hotel and promised so much for a special weekend but sadly did not deliver.

"If you like views over Snowdonia ask for rooms 5, 8 or 18 but check first with the hotel if I have that correct! Also try the Drawing Room."Read full review
