Standing in over 200 acres of its own parkland to the south of Llandudno with spectacular views of Snowdonia and Conwy Castle. Believed to have 13th century origins, Bodysgallen Hall provides all that is best in country house hospitality. Beautiful gardens include a rare 17th century parterre of box hedges filled with sweet-scented herbs, a rockery with a cascade, a walled rose garden, and several follies. Historic House Hotels Ltd bought and rescued the house from a dilapidated state in 1981 and restored the 17th century house and gardens. In September 2008 Historic House Hotels Ltd and its interest in all its properties were given to the National Trust to ensure their long-term protection, with all profits benefiting the houses and the charity. The 15 extremely comfortable bedrooms in the Main Hall offer several different room types, including the four elegant principal suites. Each bedroom is individually decorated and furnished with antique furniture, paintings and prints, enjoying glorious views of Bodysgallen's parkland or gardens, with some rooms having further reaching views of Conwy Castle or the distant Mountains of Snowdonia. There are 16 cottage suites with picturesque names like The Smithy, Box Cottage and Pineapple Lodge, are situated in the grounds, and provide accommodation for guests preferring a greater degree of privacy. Many cottages enjoy their own private gardens and some are in close proximity to the Bodysgallen Spa. All are charming and delightful.

The Dining Room in the main hall has been awarded three rosettes for fine dining by the AA - the only restaurant in Llandudno to be awarded such - and offers imaginative meals prepared from fresh local produce and complemented by fine wine, and overlooks the gardens and has been recognised as one of the best places for Sunday Lunch in the United Kingdom by The Observer newspaper. The Spa is approached by a short walk through the garden or by a private road. Converted from an original stone built farm it contains a magnificent 50' swimming pool edged with comfortable reclining chairs, whirlpool spa bath, steam room and sauna. A superb gymnasium has all the latest technologically advanced equipment, suitable for all ranges of fitness. A comfortable Club Room is a place where guests and members can relax and enjoy drinks and light meals, which in the summer are also served on the terrace. Residential guests have full use of the Bodysgallen Spa.Bodysgallen Hall is situated about 2 miles south from Llandudno and the North Wales coast. It is surrounded by over 200 acres of beautiful gardens and wooded parkland. Bodysgallen Hall has magnificent views of Snowdonia, and Conwy Castle. It's the perfect setting for a relaxed holiday at all times of the year. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting the many historic castles and stately homes in North Wales as well as the famous golf courses that adorn the coastline.

Bodysgallen Hall & Spa earns rave reviews for its inviting atmosphere, complete with cozy fires and period decor that transport guests to a historically rich setting. The hotel's amenities, including an acclaimed spa and picturesque gardens, receive high marks, although the spa's exclusivity is sometimes questioned due to local memberships. While some travelers regard the accommodations as overpriced, the spotless cleanliness and spacious, charming rooms garner appreciation. Guests frequently commend the attentive and professional staff, despite occasional service hiccups.

My husband and I had a two-night stay at Bodysgallen Hall recently. The Hotel is well situated in beautiful, well maintained grounds. The historic building itself is very interesting and attractive, we particularly enjoyed the 1st floor Drawing Room. Our bedroom was very spacious, warm and comfortable with a huge bed and large bathroom. It was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable and felt luxurious, with plump feather pillows to sink into. We dined at the Hall on both evenings. The dining rooms were staid, although candle-lit tables improved the atmosphere somewhat. The staff were all very polite and professional although we felt their constant presence a little intrusive. The service felt old fashioned. I for one, would rather not have my table swept of invisible crumbs in between courses, and my glass refilled every few minutes, in preference for a little more privacy. It was not in any way a fault of the staff, as they have clearly been instructed to carry out these duties. We did find the dining chairs extremely uncomfortable. It would be of great benefit to diners to have these replaced with comfortable upholstered seating. Little things make such a big difference. As for the food, it was generally good, but the portions were small and there was a lack of attention to detail, which was disappointing, considering the high price. For example, being served raw eggs and frozen solid berries straight out of the freezer. It was more style than substance overall, and very overpriced. The breakfast was good, but nothing special and again, totally overpriced. So, whilst we would highly recommend the accommodation, the dining experience was underwhelming. I hope the hotel management looks at the latter with fresh eyes very soon and makes the little changes necessary to raise the standards to where they should be.

Fabulous historic hall set in beautiful gardens with views over Snowdonia. A lovely place to stay within easy reach of Llandudno, Conway and Anglesey. The hotel offers top-notch customer service - everyone, including the garden staff were really polite and friendly! Fine dining for breakfast and dinner was a great treat- silver service with proper linen- something you rarely see anymore.

We have just returned from a four day break at Bodysgallen. Our Stay in a quirky spa cottage, provided us with all the comfort, privacy and peace we required, within easy reach of the main hotel. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Every member of staff we encountered from housekeepers, gardeners and reception staff were charming, but special mention should be made of the dining room team. They made our experience exceptional, always attentive without being intrusive, and always greeted by a generous welcome and smile even when the restaurant was busy. The food was outstanding, albeit the menu slightly limited on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Our only disappointment during our stay was our experience in the spa, we used this before dinner every evening as a way of relaxing after a day out exploring and walking in beautiful north wales. Unfortunately the spa is not exclusive to hotel residents, with paid membership subscription offered to the local community. This meant at times it felt more like a municipal pool, with serious swimmers diving, tumble turning, and repeatedly pounding lengths which restricted pool space and increased poolside noise level for hotel residents. Not quite the spa experience we were hoping for, but perhaps with a little thought the hotel could find a compromise that would please all users. A bonus to our stay was beautiful sunshine all week and complimentary NT tickets to Bodnant gardens provided by hotel reception.

Hotel is in a lovely rural location with extensive gardens which are somewhat neglected and need attention. Still nice to walk round.
Quiet, isolated location, so if you don't eat in the expensive 'fine dining' restaurant (where we thought that the food options were uninspiring) you need to drive to eat out.
We stayed in 2 cottages which were very tired and poor value - each at £330 per night B&B.
Dark rooms with scruffy furniture (more shabby than chic).
Ancient settee had no support and needed to sit on cushions.
Tired old chair.
Cluttered bedrooms, again with scruffy furniture.
Although there were good sized kitchens the only equipment was a kettle and fridge. Strange there wasn't a cooker or even a microwave. No cutlery other than tea spoons and the only crockery were mugs.
Wifi didn't work at all in either of our rooms during our 3 day visit and also no mobile signal. Wifi was better in the main building.
Erratic shower.
Many of the plugs were on old type small round sockets.
Small enclosed garden area.
Friendly staff.
The cottage accommodation is more rural village which would be ok at £600 per week but not at £2,000+ per week.
2 electric charging points.

Response from Elgan Roberts, General Manager at Bodysgallen Hall & Spa
Responded 1 Sept 2021
We thank this reviewer for their kind comments about the attractive location of the hotel, and on the friendliness of the team. The cottage suites situated around the mansion of this grade 1 listed National Trust property are skilfully converted original buildings, and each is unique. They are decorated in period and all meet the requirements of a four AA red star hotel. Though most of the cottage suites have a sizable kitchen area, this is for making tea and coffee and does not represent self-catering accommodation, and is not let as such. There was an issue with a Wifi access point for part of the cottage courtyard at the beginning of August, when this reviewer stayed, and this was replaced once reported to the hotel, by other guests and we apologise for this. We always endeavour to exceed to meet the expectations of guests, and are sorry if we did not fully on this occasion.

The welcome and service that we received from the moment that we walked in the door was outstanding and told us that the evening was going to be something very special and it certainly was. Our meal began with freshly baked spinach bread, which was just delicious! We then had canapes, which consisted of cheese croquettes and a crisp bread topped with an egg yolk mousse, both to accompany a glass of Jacques Bardelot Brut champagne. For our starters, we thoroughly enjoyed the local white crab, brown crab mousse, salt baked celeriac and wild garlic mayonnaise. This dish was absolutely extraordinary and we will never forget that taste sensation! Our mains were the roasted Conwy lamb rump, baby parsnips, caramelised onion, herb gnocchi, King oyster mushrooms, roast Bodysgallen carrot, Jerusalem artichoke, parsnip puree and port sauce. The lamb was tender and was cooked pink to perfection. This course was complimented by a 2019 Volnay from Mason Roche de Bellene. For dessert, we enjoyed the beautifully presented passion fruit panna cotta, Bodysgallen redcurrant sorbet with a passion fruit twirl in the shape of a tree. Compliments to the chef, the sommelier and all the wait staff in attendance for making our night so special! It was great that products from their own cottage garden were used in their dishes. The views of the surrounding countryside from the dining room are spectacular. The grounds are remarkable, as is the grand age of the trees standing in them. Take care when driving up to the Hall with the inbuilt drains.

Booked and stayed for 3 nights Thursday 2nd -5th January and thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay. From the initial booking ( taken over the phone and confirmed online with Hayley), to the greeting and help on arrival, and overall during our 3 night stay.
Room quality was excellent, remember it is a Grade 1 Listed Building after all! Spa facilities are excellent and whilst there also private members attached to the facility it was never busy.
The hotel never felt too busy given there are only 16 rooms, with a number of cottages in the grounds that looked very nice too and we will certainly take a look at these for future stays.
Recommend the walk through the grounds and up to the Obelisk on the hill for some great views, take some time to enjoy Conwy and visit the Castle and walk the walls
(but beware angry/hungry seagulls so keep your food / ice cream hidden at all times!).
Food served was delicious and service excellent at dinner and at breakfast.
We will definitely return, as many of the guests staying when we did were returning customers.

Visited the spa with a friend for a birthday treat. The grounds and buildings are beautiful.
Every staff member encountered was polite, friendly & made us feel welcome.
Encluded in the half spa day we had access to the pool, jacuzzi, steam & sauna room for 2 hours before our treatment. Everything was explained to us clearly & we were shown where all the facilities were.
Showers in the changing rooms were lovely & hot with free shower gel, shampoo/conditioner to use. There is also hair dryers & straighteners provided.
The full body massage was amazing! We were then able to relax with tea/coffee in the relaxation room afterwards.
Overall a really lovely visit. We will be back.

The gardens are beautiful and there is no doubt that the view of the hotel as you approach is dramatic and impressive. Sadly the feeling of excitement that we started with did not continue. We stayed in a cottage which, although clean, felt tired and outdated and a number of lights did not work. We had afternoon tea in one of the upstairs rooms which were lovely with views over the garden. It was a huge and wonderful spread and was delicious. Each diner is provided with 4 finger sandwiches, 2 large scones and 4 small cakes. Too much for one person to eat and it would have been lovely to have felt free to take what we hadn’t eaten away especially given that we were paying the £33 pp price tag. The menu made very clear that this was not acceptable.
The restaurant setting felt soulless both in the evening and at breakfast. The evening menu was hugely overpriced for what was offered. There were 3 of us and 2 of us felt that our portions were meagre. 2 of our main meals were served barely warm. Possibly as we had meat and that was left to ‘rest’ whilst the fish of the 3rd meal was cooked.
With one exception all the staff were extremely courteous and polite. I am sure this is how they are trained so cannot fault their efforts but it felt over the top. Constantly being called Ma’am does not make for a relaxing experience!
One of our party had an allergy, we were asked about allergies and it was noted down before our menu choices were taken. Nevertheless the allergy was not taken into account with 2 items we were served.
On a positive note our experience of the spa was great. All 3 of us had treatments and the staff were so welcoming and friendly and most importantly wonderfully adaptable to the particular needs of our group.
This is an expensive hotel and promised so much for a special weekend but sadly did not deliver.

We thank these guests for their review, and for their praise for the beautiful gardens, the dramatic and impressive view of the hotel, the lovely upstairs room with views, the huge and wonderful tea spread, which was delicious, (and which guests are always welcome to take away if they haven’t consumed every item), the extremely courteous and polite staff, and the great experience of the spa . In the context of this critical review the hotel does not seem to have performed too badly! Their cottage suite had just been re-carpeted, and the lights do work through a combination of wall switches and individual lamp controls. We think that this is the first time that we have been criticised for being over courteous. The tariff of the hotel is entirely in line with others in its category, including in POB hotels: it has increased as a result of inflation, especially of salaries and fuel costs. Specific comments will, of course be taken into account and we hope to welcome these guests on a return visit.

From the check in to departure this was an excellent experience. Friendly attentive staff and a beautiful view from a well appointed room. We dined in the restaurant on each of our three evenings and enjoyed all the menus very much. Perfectly cooked and expertly presented. Breakfasts were also of a high standard with continued efficient service. The gardens and grounds are well worth a wander around. Not cheap but for a special occasion highly recommended.
