#1 of 18 hotels in Ipswich
Travellers' Choice
This artfully designed boutique Hotel and Restaurant in Suffolk reflects luxury and dazzles in the waterfront of Ipswich's vibrant Harbour quayside at night. The Salthouse Harbour Hotel goes beyond what you expect and exudes its 4 star status in every curious corner, eccentric sofa and unstuffy cushion. The sea-salted brickwork exterior has been restored & rejuvenated into a ship shape contemporary warehouse of rich modern interiors and rooms adorned with vintage furniture, sculptures and eclectic art. Within its comfy chic decor, although the mood is friendly and relaxed, the staff are professionally attentive to your every need. The cuisine is exciting and the popularity of the Salthouse Eaterie fills this delightful waterfront restaurant as soon as the tables are laid.

I booked this hotel as a birthday present for my husband - and me too! What a lovely setting, overlooking the marina. Having read the reviews I opted for a front facing room with a balcony, and it was perfect! The staff in the hotel are lovely- very friendly, polite and helpful and nothing is too much trouble - even during these very difficult and troubling times. We were able to park at the hotel when we arrived, and although we were about an hour earlier than the book in time, we were able to go straight to the room. The next day we went out to visit Sutton Hoo (definitely a must see place) and on return were again able to park at the hotel. The Duke Road car park is only a short walk away if the hotel’s car park is full. The waterfront is lovely and we strolled along the quay several times during our stay. I agree with a previous review with regard to Ipswich itself, but would happily recommend The Salthouse Hotel as a great place to stay.

Stayed for one night at this Hotel had the most expensive room over looking the harbour on the top floor-worth the money and details of the room were lovely-think one night is enough as not much to do around that area-we were allowed to check in early so had a lot of time to look out over the marina-think the restaurant is over priced and the food nothing to write home about.

Lovely hotel - quirky items dotted around and nice overall feel. Paid for the harbour view room and very glad we did - could look forward to spending more time in it than you would usually want to in a hotel room. Only two points to note that I would have liked added - an option for stronger lighting in the room - eg sitting by window reading would have been better with an extra floor lamp and reading in bed was also not helped by the stylish but dim lighting. Other point was the need for a wall mirror near the sockets (only two available) - styling hair's easier with a wall mirror! If they want to keep it quirky - then put the mirror within a quirky/unusual wood frame or something similar?? Extra comment - stand alone bath's very 'cool' but where do you put your body wash etc? sorry to be boring! Overall a very enjoyable stay and a lovely room.

Room Tip: Don't know what other rooms are like but don't regret paying for the harbour view as not...
