We paid £80 thinking it looked nice online, it's the kind of place that should be charging £20 for somewhere to sleep if your desperate, It's basically 'digs' ... the location and car park are the only redeeming features. We booked a double bed and when we got in found it was 2 singles pushed together with a duvet that wasn't big enough to go over. There were holes on the curtains, the coat hook dangled off the wall and there were loose cables on the wall. Most disappointing was the bathroom which was walled in 360° plastic and tiny it looks like a portaloo with a shower... I complained and was told by the 'night porter' ? That we would never get our money back from the owners, it seems they have loads of complaints. We were given a room in there other hotel across the road which was definitely less terrible.. but not exactly special.

Pathetic service. Cheaters! Lying about the service and cancelling the booking without prior information. Very disappointed!! Avoid at all cost. Will never go there again! Cancelled my room without any prior information or notification.

Mould growing inside windows.Filthy carpets.Shower leaking.Key fob never worked.Had to go looking for someone at 1am to get us in our room.Thought breakfast was included but had to pay another £16.Paid £15 to enter the room early and it had not even been cleaned. They kept knocking the door to get in whilst we were getting ready for a wedding. An alarm going off constantly.Steer clear.

We stayed for one night in August en route home from a coastal break. The photos you see of the rooms are misleading! They must he photos of the ‘sister’ hotel next door because the Globe is grubby, dusty and falling apart. As you enter the door you are greeted with a crumbling floor and wires hanging out of the wall. The fire alarm bleeped all night and when I asked about it I was told it was a fault. We stayed in room 12 which had a small kitchen in it with a pint of frozen milk in the fridge? There was no hairdryer, iron or toiletries as described and the sink was tiny and not clean at all. The room was stifling hot and I when I reported it I was told the heating was on. We had to open every window in the room and it was still warm after the heating was turned off. The boiler was in the room so every time someone ran hot water the boiler would kick in. The timer on the boiler ticked away all night in unison with fire alarm. The tea/ coffee maker was a small kettle with a few sachets of coffee and long life milk. There was also only one cup - thankfully my husband doesn’t drink it anyway. The door handle fell off and we had to fix it back on and there were cobwebs along the top of the curtains and thick dust behind the bed. I moved the armchair slightly and came across a man’s sock! It certainly did not belong to my husband. On a positive - the bed and towels were clean otherwise I would’ve been sleeping in the car! The staff were polite and the breakfast was nice and freshly cooked. It certainly was not value for money at £85 per night plus breakfast.

This was a work trip for a few nights. Everything else was pretty much sold out in Colchester and this and it’s sister hotel across the road,The Star Anglia, were about the only things that remained. Should have told me everything. Where to start? Really dated rooms that look as if they haven’t been updated in years. Dirt marks on the walls. Broken headboard on bed. Tiny bathroom. A fire alarm that intermittently beeped all through the night. A scruffy looking lobby area that had rough plaster and wires hanging out of the wallls. Floors that creaked every time you stepped on them ( and that included the rooms above) and a load of p***ed up guests running up and down the stairs making all sorts of noise late at night. Glad to get out of there. Not recommended, and this was at £80 a night. At least Dick Turpin wore a a mask eh? Having stayed there, I wouldn’t pay £20 a night for this place. Stay clear.
