The Charlie Brown B&B is certainly a sight to behold with its 700-year building with apparent beams and half-timbering on the thick walls, acting like good soundproof against the noise of the very busy street. It is easy to reach Colchester's city centre by foot. The B&B's internal architecture is a bit surprising but my room was spacious, filled with...

Stayed at Charlie Brown's for five nights in November 2012 and liked it very much. Very helpful owners. My double room was very spacious, had a mini fridge and flatscreen TV and an ensuite bathroom. They charged me 65 euro. Breakfast was also good.

I stayed at Charlie Brown's for five nights and liked it very much. Very helpful owners, attractive interior (the building is some 700 years old, full of exposed beams, wavy contour lines and that sort of stuff). One drawback was the TV noise from the room below me, which was the owner's living room, but that's what you get in...

Stayed here this week with our family of 4 and it was just what we were looking for. Relatively central, very comfortable room and a cracking breakfast served by the friendly Jane. We had the four poster with ensuite which would normally be a very snug, cosy and romantic room, however Jonathan had (at our request) put in two very...

We were welcomed into the charlie browns warmly by Jane, even though we arrived a couple of hours after our check in time. We were also greeted by the couples dogs, which was nice. The four poster room is beautifully decorated, matching the low ceilings and dark wooden beams, whilst still looking modern and homely. The carpet hurt my feet...

I stayed at Charlie Browns for 3 nights last week, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and it's very rare you can say that about a hotel or B&B stay! I stayed in the four poster room, it was fantastic, everything you could wish for or need was available. The decor is very impressive, it's the little touches which make it...

I found Charlie Brown's through Google, and the ad stood out from the rest! We had the Mulberry room, comfortable, clean and spacious. As country dwellers from a very quiet village, we had extremely restful nights. Jane & Jonathan are excellent hosts, and make you feel welcome and part of the family! I have mobility problems, and they were considerate,...

I always say that “you never get a second chance to make a first impression”; for once I was wrong!! On arriving (I had said we would arrive before 18:00 and we arrived at 17:00; so to be fair we were a little early) at Charlie Browns there was a personal note on the door asking me to telephone a...

“We had the four poster....it was perfectly sized for a (young) family of four...although if you're planning to spend time in the B&B then the common room is a better bet for lounging around. If it's just the two of you then the room is ample and charming.”
