We came here for our wedding reception, it was amazing!! We really liked the venue when we visited previously. The manager David, was very accommodating, enthusiastic, easy to talk to and full of ideas. This gave us confidence that our day would run very smoothly. We'd eaten here before so we knew the food was excellent. We then had a... More

Our son and his fiancé chose to have their wedding reception here, what a great choice, the pub and restaurant are really nicely decorated and set out, the staff are very friendly and it also welcomes dogs (apart from in the actual restaurant). The Manager was really accommodating and helpful. Everyone had a great time and those who stayed the... More

Stayed for one night whilst going to the races. It is around 15 pounds in a taxi to the course. The pub and rooms are next to a main road that is busy all night making sleep very hard to come by. You have to buy breakfast the next day which came as a surprise, the sausages were anaemic and... More

Were travelling home to Fareham after a weekend in Liverpool and decided to see if we could have a quick visit to Highclere Castle - unfortunately the Castle was closed, however we decided to stop at the Carnarvon Arms and have Sunday dinner. On arrival we were greeted by a very gracious waiter who sat us at a lovely table.... More

Called in for Sunday lunch with a friend. This is a nice looking pub thoughtfully decorated with table seating and sofas. My expectations were high. My friend opted for the Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding. Being a vegetarian I asked if they had alternative Sunday roast. I was told no problem , it would be served with vegetarian gravy too!... I don't want to be overly harsh because it's not a bad place to stay, the rooms are nicely decorated and I slept well. However, our room was next to some kind of cleaning cupboard and you could hear someone rummaging around in there in the morning which woke me up. The tea cups in the room were full of... More

Stayed for two nights in October whilst visiting family nearby. All of the staff we encountered were absolutely great and took time out to chat. Rooms are spotlessly clean and appear recently refurbished - bathroom likewise. Previous reviews complain about the traffic noise but I personally didn't notice it. We ate here only once and I'm sorry we didn't eat... More

I don't like a number of things. I didn't like the late check in, and the refusal to look after a suitcase until then. I didn't like the small rooms. The bathroom in particular was only big enough for one person at a time. I didn't like the lack of flexibility. And I just think a hotel has to be... More

Dear David Thank you for your time to review the Carnarvon Arms. I can only apologise for you feeling that we were not flexible on your requirements to check in earlier than 3pm. Stayed here for a small business meeting. It's about a mile, if that, from the place they filmed Downton if you're into that. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
