Our room was a huge disappointment. I booked a contemporary room, but the room we were given was very outdated and in need of a complete make-over. It also, had few of the features listed on our email booking confirmation. There was no iPod docking station, DVD player, coffee machine or iron and ironing board. The bathroom was awful. The...

I have stayed at the Somerton House on about 6 occasions during the shooting season. My single room 5 is very small and in need of an update. It is still clean and sufficient for a single man on a shooting break. I have been told that all the rooms in the main house are to be update/graded this year....

Wonderful hospitality in a beautiful setting. The old house is beautiful and used to good effect in creating a really great place to stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant which was good.

Arrived at 9pm after driving up from Manchester in thick snow. Very welcoming staff and even made us some sandwiches and chips for our arrival after the dining room had shut. Rooms are brilliant for the money- nice touches like the tartan carpet and a lovely breakfast. Great to see the traditional decor in the bar and breakfast areas and...

All the element of an old fasioned welcome were set during my phone conversation with Alex who was as charming at breakfast as when I booked our comfortable, spacious room. We all enjoyed our stay which was made more pleasant by the dog being allowed in the bar as well as our room.

Very warm welcome and shown to my room just in the small annex. Good sized room although shower room was small. Well equipped for one night with TV, kettle etc. Comfortable bed but short fitting bottom sheet. A well cooked meal served in the bar and friendly service. Cooked breakfast was good and freshly prepared, buffet choice was limited.

We have now stayed in this hotel four times and have never been disappointed. It is family run and welcoming and we have found it an ideal place to stay when travelling from the south of England to the north of Scotland. It would also be a good base from which to explore the Borders. The staff are friendly, the...

Stayed here once a week since May on business. Great value well run family business. Alex and all staff work hard to ensure you have a good stay. Pleasant well kept rooms, good food and quiet yet convenient location. Nothing too much trouble, suitable for all traveller types.

Booked into this hotel as we were in Lockerbie for a funeral and this is were the food was afterwards. We arrived late at night they greeted us and immediately asked as if we needed food as the kitchen was just cleaning after the restaurant had closed. I said what I would really like was just a bowl of soup....

We arrived on a very wet night and were given a warm welcome. Our room was a lovely size and the bathroom very good. We had an enjoyable meal in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend this very friendly hotel.

Friendly and professional hotel that caters to all. During the week we have a regular business trade that takes advantage of all the mod cons, including full wi-fi coverage, in stylish and relaxing surroundings. We are excellently located for all local companies and just over an hours journey to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Weekends are busy with local food trade and also with small functions and weddings. ... more   less
