Spacious double room with wonderful view of St. Magnus Cathedral and the harbour. Malcolm's library could have kept us there all day! Wish we could have had time to get to know our generous host. Would love to visit again

When you stay at a hostel, expectations should be pretty low -- you're not paying for luxury, just a basically clean and safe place to stay. Unfortunately, this place didn't even meet that low bar. When I arrived, the host was very scattered and didn't seem to know where I should go (I had booked ahead of time and had... More

The rooms and common spaces were really dirty and there was a bad smell all over the place. However the accomodation didn't cost that much and all basic stuff worked ok. The host Malcolm was really nice person and we had great fun spending a night with him!

We stayed in this B and B in late July 2016. Clean beds clean bathing facility and toilet. Full access to kitchen. The host Malcolm is very warm and interesting. Dont listen to the people who give this place a negative review. If you are looking to stay in a hotel and not leave your room, this is not your... More

I can not fault this gentleman as a host, it is just such a pity that the establishment he runs is not of a higher standard. I was made to feel very welcome, even when I misplaced my key early one morning (about 6.45am) and had to wake him he was obliging . However I had several problems with the... More

Stayed for two nights May 2016. Excellent location (only 5 minute walk to Kirkwall and all amenities). Room was very clean and had TV and en suite. Malcolm was extremely helpful and knows the area very well so helped us with places to visit. We didn't use the kitchen facilities that were available but I would definitely recommend for value... This place is very tired and is showing many signs of neglect and lack of basic cleanliness. The smell is a smoky, dirty odour that hits you when you first walk in the building. The carpets were dirty and not been vacuumed for many weeks it seemed. Windows dirty, toilet seat pee stained and just not a nice place at... More

I stayed with my mum and two young children in this hostel for 7 nights. The owner was very welcoming and I felt that it offered amazing value for the price paid. The accommodation used to be a B&B and is now offered as a guest house, and the main things are that the room was clean, beds were comfortable... More

We arrived late off of the Orkney ferry, but had informed the proprietor of this at the time that we payed our £30 deposit. It was dark when we arrived, the front door stood wide open, and no one was in sight. No one came to greet us when we rang the bell, and on a quick inspection of the... More

This is now a hostel and I wouldn't stay in it if you paid me to. I turned up to check in at 8.30am as advised through the website. The first thing that hit me as I walked through the door was an awful smell. There was no one around so I ventured upstairs where I was met by someone... More
