We came here whilst staying in an Air BnB property with friends after a recommendation from the house owner. The pub was exactly what we were after, cosy, welcoming, dog and kid friendly and greats service. 7 of the 8 of us ordered the Steak and Black Pudding pie and it was awesome. The bill was very reasonable and we... More

We stayed here on a Saturday night. The staff were extremely helpful and the food delicious. The room was very comfortable and we had an excellent breakfast. Good place to stay for visiting Barnard Castle and for enjoying walks in Teesdale.

We were given details of the Fox and Hounds as our other place stopped trading, we were attending a wedding at Lartington Hall, Barnard Castle. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us for three nights, the landlady was extremely helpful, kindly organised our taxi pick ups. We phoned Nicola when we arrived and she quickly came to the pub to... More

Great inn in stunning Teasdale. Incredibly friendly staff, great atmosphere and the food was spot on. Breakfast the next morning was equally as good - local produce cooked whichever way you like, and set us up for a nice long hike in the upper Teasdale valley.

We visited several times while on holiday in our campervan nearby, twice for drinks and once for dinner. There are a couple of guest ales as well as Black Sheep bitter and all were well kept and tasty. There is a dog friendly room on the left as you enter and plenty of tables for dog lovers to enjoy a... More

The Fox continues to provide a "real" pub experience with home made food using local suppliers, a good selection of real ale (Tirril, Black Sheep and other guest beers) and Durham Gin amongst others. We had Medallions of Pork in a creamy sauce and Fish and Chips, these came with a selection of freshly cooked vegetables (the chips are chunky... More

Four adults, one toddler and one Hound ate here at the beginning of July. The food was very good, the service excellent and the Hound was made welcome. We asked for a discount on account of having our very own Hound but was told we'd need to bring the Fox as well. Am a bit surprised to read some bad... More

I have just stayed here for the second time while visiting from Australia and on both occasions the hospitality and warmth of welcome has been outstanding. The three bedrooms - yes I have stayed in all three - are all en-suite and very comfortable. The food is excellent - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Scrambled eggs or fresh kippers make for... More

I was picked up in the middle of nowhere and taken to the Fox and Hounds by the proprietor. I've passed the pub on several occasions over many years, but never stayed there. It's an old building, with dated decor and furniture, which could do with some refurbishment. However, the friendly welcome outweighs any shortcomings. My room had a huge... More
